Is lipstick out?

I was reading InStyle today, and they are heavily pushing both the dark eyes/nude lips and bare-faced looks again. They quoted at least 3 celebs stating that dark eyes are sexier than red lips, and all the how-tos were about nude makeup. Not "No Lipstick", but how to achieve a bare-lip look with lip products. :eusa_doh:

I agree with Lillemor, red lips/bare lips seem to be a common seasonal trend.

The funny thing about women's magazines (and pretty much anything fashion-related) is how they'll act shocked, shocked that anyone would wear anything but *this season's colors*! And come Fall, they tell us that the "classic" looks are back in, and shoudn't we discard all those "dated" skin tones? lol

I don't think lipstick, in its many forms, will ever go away - but the shades sure change. I don't see many red lips at all right now. Even I don't have a "true red" lipstick.

Actually, I don't see many true red's in the summer... but I do see many orangey-reds glossy tones. I think people need something... brighter, for summer than just red.

i've started wearing lipstick more and more as i get older, its too much hard work when you are in your twenties and partying way too much! I don't think it will ever go out of style, it survived a drubbing during the years of hard core feminism, it'll survive anything!

If for no other reason, women are probably going to continue to put something on their lips for hydration. That being the case, you have colorless chapstick type balms, or colored ones in the form of lipsticks and glosses. If your going to put stuff on your lips, why not make it colored? I don't think lipstick is going anywhere anytime soon.

i've stopped wearing color on my lips just recently... since Burts Bees discontinued the ONLY color LipShimmers that i like on myself. $#$^%!!!! i don't wear actual lipstick too often because i don't wear foundation, and i feel like it looks weird without the foundation.

Hahaha, that is quite true! I was recently at a theme party where I had to dress up as another friend and vice versa. Well, the girl who dressed up as me (red lipstick and all), had quite a difficult time with the red lipstick! She kept asking me how I kept it on all night, even when I'm drinking!

It is quite the challenge, but I'm vain enough to make it work.

I've worn deep and bright shades of red (none that suited me), pink, and every other dark color you can imagine since I was 7 and regularly since I was 12 so I wasn't aware that it was so much trouble for other women to apply lipstick. On the other hand, I haven't mastered the gloss yet. I apply my lipstick straight from the tube. It could be a matter of habit but I don't think a brush gives more control or a more uniform application. Creamy/mattes are easiest to apply for me and the lasting effect is good enough for me.

I don't know why lipstick is seen as such a vain and OTT thing to wear these days. I never see other women with lipstick on locally. I really believe I'm the only woman in my town who wears lipstick.

On an everyday basis I don't wear foundation, but I do wear lipstick. I wear Besame's transluscent loose powder though, because of the SPF and the extra pallor. I think lipstick makes any lady ten times more attractive!

I just bought my first red lipstick. Well technically its a pinkish red but its the reddest I've ever owned, Revlon's Mulled Wine.

And I was assured by three of this summer's magazines (Cosmo, Marie Claire...don't remember the other) that the colors for lips are "bright-but-sheer" reds and corals. "Not too opaque and never matte, but still with bright color."

I've never worn lipstick. My lips are pretty dark and I hate the way lipstick feels. I'm a Chapstick girl all the way.

I always wear some kind of lip colour or gloss. Usually in darker shades for work and when I go out and lighter for other times. I have tinted lip gloss also and just bought a new 'lip stain' from Bloom, which is great. Goes on like a texta and lasts a fair while.

I do like my reds and dark pinks.

I wish i could wear my lipstick more often but my lips crack way too easily. its quite annoying.

If your lips crack easily, it may help to first gently exfoliate the surface with a warm washcloth or a lip-scrub product (The Body Shop used to make one, I can't remember what it's called.)

Then, apply a heavy lip balm and let it sit for 10 minutes or so. The best way for this to soak in is to apply heavy heavy balm right before your shower... the steam will help "set" the balm.

Remove the balm from your mouth with a warm washcloth and then apply lipstick as usual.

This method, admittedly, take some time, but if you have lips prone to cracking from drying lip pigments, it will help.

Carmex contains salicylic acid, which is a drying agent. (it's often used as an ingredient in wart removers, because of this.) If your lips are prone to bad cracking, products that contain this aren't a good choice.

Carmex is great for people who aren't really prone to chapped lips, and just need an environmental barrier for their lips. (like skiers, who expose their lips to extreme wind)

I've always been very prone to chapped lips and live in a dry climate. By "chapped," I mean cracked and bleeding. I've tried other lip balms, but Carmex is the only one that works for me.

I've never heard that salicylic acid is a drying agent.

So lucky that Carmex works for you! I love the slight tingle that it produces, but the chemicals in it simply destroy my lips. I wish I could use it!

Urban Decay used to make those lip stains that went on like a Texta, and they were fantastic!
