i have 2 fur felt dobbs fifth avenue new york tear drop crowns one grey and one black. but the black one is the problem... does anyone else get OCD when they see specks of dust or build up of debris on their hats and have a mad urge to immediately clean it off with a brush ASAP? will it damage the felt if i keep brushing my hats?

I'll give you the advice my dentist always gives me at checkups. Brush lightly!!!

Seriously, you can brush your hat frequently but don't bear down too hard. Quick, light, counterclockwise strokes should suffice.

I wouldn't use a lint roller or tape very often, as I'd worry it would eventually raise the nap on the hat.

I think brushing often is OK, as long as you follow the advice above to brush lightly. Brim brushes are pretty stiff, a crown brush is much softer. I don't have a crown brush, but use a nice badger fur shaving brush (never used for shaving, BTW) to deal with incidental lint and cat hair. For a real brushing, once or twice a season, I use the brim brush.
