"Irvin" from ALC

Forgive me for my ignorance. But what is an "Irvin" and where or what is ALC? I ask because I suspect I'm not the only one without a clue.

Royal Air Force WWII model Irvin made by Aviation Leathercraft in UK.
A jacket like this - but with two (unoriginal) sidepockets.
