Incredible HOLY GRAIL German 1930s Sportcoat

Thanks to Mario I was recently able to acquire this incredible German 1930s sportcoat from the Cinetex guys in Berlin. This is a rare beast indeed. I never expected to find a 1930s belted back in my size. But this one is not only special because of its size. First, it's a German belted back. Second, it's not a half belt but a three quarter belt. Third, the belt is loose. Fourth, it has a pleated back. And fifth, it has even front pleats! I don't think it gets any better or more rare than this!

I'll post fit pics later when it's not as warm anymore.

€300 That's more than any of my suits cost me. On the other hand it's less than my leather jackets. And I am quite positive that it was a once in a lifetime opportunity considering my extremely long arms. I had to jump on it.

Yeah, it fits great. I had the waist taken in a bit and the sleeves let out 1cm.

It's quite heavy because of that serious pleatage.

That's a fair price for something that you really love and actually fits. Also, if I remember correctly, you have some wide-legged, tailor-made, cream flannel trousers: they will look fantastic when worn with that jacket.

Ah well...another good deed on my karma account...I really should join the boy scouts...
I bet that on the day when finally a German sportcoat in my size turns up I won't have the money to buy it.

BTW: On German jackets the belts were usually only sewn on at the side seams.

I know that this is standard for German jackets. But there are hardly any German half belts to be found anymore. Hell, even American belted back jackets are scarce. And if you're used to American jackets this feature is quite unusual.

My flannels are mid-grey. If you know a source of cream flannel in a decent quality, please let me know.

No, I don't really like spectators. But my brown suede brogues or white bucks will do just fine.

That is an absolutely beautiful garment. The back pleating is just divine.
For some reason I am reminded of Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce - one or other of them must have worn something similar in one of the Sherlock Holmes films.
A brilliant find! Wear it in good health, as the old tailors used to wish a gentleman buying a new garment.
