i like mustards so spicy brown , dijion and those like Beaver Brand where they seem to have a little horseradish are good. Back east I like Kosciuosko (SP?)

I like them plain
Mustard and catsup (Actually an anathma to purists)
Mustard, Kraut and diced onions
Chicago style.

Wrapped in bacon can be good too.

In Denmark i love the pilsor (sp/) they are fantastic.

Wasses Hot Dogs, Rockland Maine. Natural-casing franks grilled in peanut oil, served in a steamed New England style roll.

You can smell them a half-mile away when the wind is right (I live a half-mile from the stand, and I speak from knowledge.)

Wasses dogs were the favorite junk food of Andrew Wyeth. But as far as I know, he never painted one.

A little note about our food... Direct from Gary himself.

Since 1992, we have been satisfying loyal customers in Fairfield, CT with snappy hot dogs and freshly made condiments. We strive to keep freshness top priority.

Our hot dogs are locally made with just the right cuts of beef and pork, finished with a natural casing and a hint of smoke.

Our bread is supplied from local bakeries and delivered still warm every morning insuring the perfect base for a great tasting hot dog!

Toppings? Our relishes, both sweet and hot, are completely made from scratch… We don’t just chop up pickles and add spices, we actually pickle our own vegetables and puree them to create relishes that harken back to a by gone era… before the invention of food coloring and preservatives!

How about some kraut… We buy barrel style sauerkraut, rinse the brine away and spike it with toasted caraway and bacon. So delicious you can eat it by itself!

Don’t forget the chili… Made with lean ground beef, vegetables and just the right blend of spices.

French fries? Yep, we have a contract with a local farm that grows specific potatoes just for us! Insuring the most fresh cut fry you ever tasted! You can see us cut ‘em and taste for yourself!​

My favourites by a long chalk are the ones you get in Norway.

It is always - baconpølse med potetsalat, stekt løk, tomatketchup, sennep og hot dog dressing or in other words... bacon wrapped hot dog with potato salad, fried onions, tomato sauce, mustard and hot dog dressing sauce. If they are out of potato salad I'll get rekesalat (shrimp salad) which is good as well.

One of the first things I do when I am back in Norway is go and buy one of these. They really are fantastic!

Lucky Dogs, sold right on the street in New Orleans; a Lucky dog with chili will fill a two foot pothole on Bourbon St.

The New England style bun is a classic not often seen outside of the North East.

Anybody ever watch the PBS show "A Hot Dog Program" ?
It is usually played on the 4th of July in LA.
Great film but getting a bit dated these days.

There's a Vienna Beef Hot Dog stand in Santa Fe, NM around the corner from the Hotel Santa Fe, when ever I was there on business I stop for a couple Polish Sausages.

I agree, amazing hot dogs. At a distant second I would put Casey's hot dogs in Natick Ma

John, this thread has made me wistful with many warm memories of the Left Coast. A couple of Pink's with extra kraut and plenty of spicy brown mustard was a sure road to my gastronomic happiness!! I never hit Orson Welles status though: the Great Man could apparently pack away a dozen plus of Pink's finest while sitting curbside in his Limo. :essen: :essen:

A number of the ones listed are also part of what's covered by "A hot Dog Program" great list.

Pink's is one of the best know hot Dog places in LA but the list is growing. I'll see if i can find a link to the best in LA.

Pink's also is a must for my cousins from Denmark when they visit. We usually got to Hollywood Blvd, then Pinks and after Melrose, Farmer's Market and Rodeo Drive if we can squeeze it all in.

What a coincidence. I had a hankering for a dog today and tried "The Slaw Dogs" in Pasadena, California. http://www.theslawdogs.com/menu.html I had The Reuben Dog and it was pretty tasty. First time there. Looking forward to working my way through that menu. Here's an article about it in the LA Times. Mentions some other place in LA as pretty good too, Fab Dogs. If you're looking for The Slaw Dogs, it's on Lake Avenue just before you get to Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles. Regular (Shopsys) hot dogs on the yellow egg hot dog buns are nice. With yellow mustard (Frenchies) and tons of pickles.

If there's Kolbasa in the house, real Kolbasa, not the stuff from the super market, I like to Bar-B-Q that with some nice sauce. If it's done right you don't need anything on it.

I haven't, but it's highly recommended by those who have.

Another one worth checking out if you're up this way is Red's Eats in Wiscasset -- you'll have plenty of time watching the long line move when you're backed up in traffic at the bridge!
