Implosion of the Sands

The Atlantic City 'Sands' was imploded this evening. This hotel never had the legendary status as it's Vegas original, but it's 'Copa Room' was Sinatra's home when he played AC.

Today has been quite the sad day. I came to the 'Lounge' to bid farewell to Joey Bishop, Deborah Kerr, and the Sands, only to discover that Teresa Brewer has also passed on. However, I just realized that all four have a 'Sinatra connection'.

Brewer appeared many times on Sinatra's late 50's Timex Hour TV Show.
The Kerr/Sinatra connection~ the flic 'From Here To Eternity.
And Bishop being the last of the surving Rat Packers, having performed with Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr, and Peter Lawford at the Vegas Sands while filming the original 'Oceans Eleven'!

For the East Coast loungers, there's no need to fret. You'll be getting your own version of the mega Resort Hotel & Casino, The Mirage in 2012!

Anyway here's a pic of the 'old' AC Sands, certainly gone too soon at the age of 26.~

And as we another one of these oldies go boom I wonder, as others here have, when they're going to build a Golden Era theme casino. Certainly there'd ne no lack of ideas as the place could have areas from the Roaring 20s to the Fab 50s.[huh]

Teresa Brewer, too? I didn't know that. Let us all observe a moment of silence for this fine performer, who never got nearly the exposure she deserved. She was much more than a novelty singer, and it's a pity more people never knew it.
