I did it! Long hair cut short.

Loungers! Today I did it. I had my hair long since I was 15. Now - 54 years of age - I finally found out how my head and neck shape is without my long hair camouflaging it

Story behind this: There are kids loosing their hair during chemo therapy. I donated my hair to the Kids with Cancer Foundation. The cut off tail measures 38 cm.

I am kind of proud that I finally had the courage.

Maybe should have waited until spring. But I have wool beanies enough... have to experiment with the right length but better to wait a few days until it has set and go step by step from here.

Now a good whiskey.

I had to tell somebody. Here I am:

We are married since 20 years now. My wife had no imagination how it would turn out. My hair was still wet when these photos were shot.

I think that's a good look, and it works well with your eyeglass frames.

I wore my hair at least long enough to touch my shirt collars since high school. A few years ago I started cutting it shorter, but it still hung just above my shirt collars at it's shortest. Earlier this year I was forced to visit a different shop and a different barber, so I decided to go for broke and have it cut even shorter. Besides, my 60th birthday was in July and my hair is thinning, so I didn't want to be that guy who grows his hair longer trying to hide the fact that it's falling out. I was also tired of spending a small fortune on shampoo and conditioner. So this was me a couple of years ago:

Sorry, I have no recent "hatless" photos of myself, but it's safe to say that the typical "male pattern baldness" seems to run in my family--receded hairline, bald spot forming on the crown in the back, and more recently some thinning on top. The moment the barber was done cutting it so short, I wished I had done it years earlier simply because it's so much easier to maintain.

Oh, and congratulations on 20 years together!

I used to have (really) long hair for almost 20 years. Then mother nature played her cruel jokes on me and since then I shave (what is left of) my hair weekly.

In high school I was a “long haired hippy freak.” Military service and, then, management roles had me dial it back. During COVID work-from-home I got shaggy again. Then, as soon as my barber shop opened, I severely cut it short again. Now, as I begin the final chapter of my life, I wonder if I’m gonna go back to my roots or stay “corporate”. Admittedly, my beard kinda lets me have it both ways. Time will tell.

Second that, that's a great charity to support, your new look is great and I just love the look of love in your lady's smile. Fabulous photo.

Did I ever have long hair? When I brought my girlfriend to meet my family, my sisters were showing her a few photos from our family album. "Who is she?" My lady asked, pointing to a rather long haired, blurred image. "Your boyfriend," answered two very amused sisters. "No way!" Came the reply. My hair was never cut other than the ends trimmed for the three years I was at college, but entering into the gravitas of the business world, where smart suits, polished shoes and collar & tie were the uniform of the day, a short back and sides, military style haircut it just had to be.

My long hair coincided with the rise of the popular sixties bands like The Beatles & Rolling Stones. Those band members all had long hair, as did many of my fellow students. And if, Zombie, you think I'm going to post a photo of my long-haired-youth, think on.

Your post reminds me of meeting my girlfriend's parents for the first time. I had stopped cutting my hair as well while I was still in high school, and the job I had after that allowed me to maintain the length. By the time I met her parents it had been about three years since I'd had my hair cut, so it hung one-third of the way down my back and I looked like a pale version of Slash from Guns N' Roses. Her mother and father were of the same generation as my parents, the primary difference being they were both born in Italy while mine were not. But both sets of parents shared a similar mindset so, even meeting them for the first time, her parents were familiar to me. I was familiar to them too, but not in a good way--I reminded them of every dimwitted boyfriend my future wife had ever brought home to meet them before. Before long they both realized I had more going for me than those clowns did despite my long hair, and eventually I found myself sitting before them asking for their youngest daughter's hand in marriage. Then, a week before the wedding, her mother informed us that she would NOT be at the wedding unless I cut my hair and shaved my beard. It was more of a request than a demand, but she was adamant. If it had been almost anyone else I would have told them to go get stuffed, but I loved her parents almost as much as I loved my own so it wasn't even an issue. Besides, it was such a simple thing to do to keep peace in my new family.
