I really love it when kookaburras or rosella's come and sit on my balcony railing but that hardly ever happens
A few weeks ago a really ugly bird flew down and sat on the railing. It was honestly the ugliest bird I have ever seen. It had things like chicken combs on it but they were hanging down on either side of its face. I wish I could have taken a picture but I was too slow.

We're not so fortunate as to get wallabies like that where I live...
Just the rainbow lorrikeets on the balcony (bet you've got a few up around Byron as well!), magpies, currawongs, kookaburras, fairy wrens, the odd corella or sulpher crested cockatoo and Powerful Owl or Nankeen Kestrel. Not to mention the bandicoots and water dragons that scurry around. And occasional whales migrating up the coast or dolphins that we can watch from the balcony.
Then there are the brush and ringtail possums, who labour under the impression that their rightful place is in our roof. The phrase "like possums fighting on a tin roof" canot be properly understood unless one has been woken in the middle of the night by thumps, hisses, skitterings and screams overhead.

It's aways amazed me when I hear that americans are horrified by the apparently large numbers of dangerous animals here, sharks crocodiles etc. Are they kidding? I can wander around the countryside, and OK I've gotta watch out I don't step on a snake in summer, but bloody hell: we don't have these!!!
the aptly named Ursus arctos horribilis, now THAT'S a scary animal.

Yeah, I've seen some of those 'survived being mauled by wild animals' TV shows . . . Those Grizzly bears are bad news if you disturb a mother with cubs or stray near a male on heat. At least dingoes, while they can't be trusted as far as you can throw 'em, don't weigh 1400 pounds and carry around paws bigger than a human head!
