Hi guys. just a quick question on how to post pics. I have the pics downloaded to my computer. When I go to "upload a file" I get an error that says image is to big. I have been trying to search history, but am having no luck. Thanks.

You are much better off using Imgur or Photobucket (which i think is free again!), the quality will be much better and the size larger.
All you have to do is upload them online and then use the forum link in your post.

If you happen to access the forum through your phone or tablet and the pictures are on that device I cannot recommend enough the use of this app called Tapatalk.

You can upload directly from your pictures and you don’t need to worry about sizing as the app lets you choose three different resolutions (small to high) all of which are natively supported.

not really sure how to downsize them
My electrickery, wizardry is called Windows seven, if your's runs like mine, look at the photo that's too big, right click on it and if a drop down menu pops up, click on edit. Your photo will fill your screen, but, if you have a second menu with a box with the number 100 in it, change the number 100 to 50, then click on the X to leave the page. You will be asked to save changes, click on save. Try uploading again, if it's still too big repeat as above. You'll get there.

PLEASE UPLOAD FILES DIRECTLY. Using a hosting service all but guarantees loss of the image later.

And it is so simple. Drag the photo file from your computer into the post window. Choose full size and you’re done!
I tried that, but it didn't let me drop my photo into the text box.

Yeah, I have the same problem I found now with embedding photos on my posts, I guess I haven't been around the forum for quite a time.

if you take picture with your phone, open it with image browser app in your phone, and screen capture it to greatly reduce its size,

then download/ install IMGUR app in your phone, upload the small size screen capture using that IMGUR app, copy the link provided by the app,

click the "picture" icon here (symbolized with sun and mountain), paste the link, wait until the embedded picture showing in between your text, then post your message.

alternatively in most forum you can insert image inside the message body by typing
[_img]imagelink[/img] (remove the underscore)

So I never use photos off my phone. I use a point & shoot set to 3MP or a Small DSLR set to 3.5 MP. Then I use (from a Windows 7 or Windows 10 PC) the Snipping Tool if needed and Crop the photo down further, but only if I set the camera to a higher resolution. My larger DSPR shoots in 36 MP in full size/Fine Quality. That requires use of the Snip tool (In Windows Accessories in the Start Menu) and to crop down. Very easy to do. It looks like this:

And you can simply hit Control - V (Paste) and it goes right into the Dialog Box I am typing in...

Give it a try - no need for an additional App or Software if you have the photos to your PC.

Just use the Tapatalk app on your phone. Take pictures and upload. The app manages the size for you no need to worry about pictures being too large or 3rd party hosting services.

I didn't quite grasp everything in the beginning of your post, but I always use Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V, so it was great leaning I could post into the dialog box w/o having to upload files.
Thanks!

New iOS allows you to scale the photo (directly from your camera roll) to an appropriate upload size. Pretty cool. I think it’s safe to say Steve Jobs was a TFL member. no other way to explain it. Bill Gates....probably not.
