How to clean cream flannels (red tennis field stains)

Hello,

I've got a "new" (30-50's) pair of British cream wool flanell trousers.

At the cuff area there are pinkish stains (not just spots, but rather spread), probably from the red tennis field.

Any idea how to best clean them out?
Normal washing powder and a small tub with hot water yielded little results.

i imagine the red dust has had a dyeing effect over the years on the fabric, and that's why a regular wash didn't work.
a solvent might be your only hope. i.e. dry cleaning.
