You mean Homie the Clown right? ;) :p

Not originally. I meant the guy who dresses like a four year old in his much older brother's hat, covered my a hoodie, shorts and jersey, wears fake, or worse yet real, silver or gold caps, big gold chain, huge roundball shoes or more huge skateoarding "boats" (read shoes), has tatoos over 20% of his visible flesh, colors his hair orange and wears makeup, sometimes like a WWF member. He walks like alley oop with a rash where you don't want one. Gangsta, circa 1985 to ???

Your question, and the description it required, however, pretty much make him a clown.

If I'm going to dress like a gangster, I'd sure rather it be Al Capone, michael Corleone or even Ronnie Kray than some eejit like Snoop Dogg, so called.

I agree with your general point viz the flexibility of khaki - get too dependent on it, though, and there is the danger of turning into GapMan. ;) I've never had a problem with mixing a fedora with denim - though to qualify that, the jeans are dressed up with proper shoes, shirt, more often than not a cravat, and a blazer. :)

Now all we need is a fedora Lounge tartan!:)

Yes please! I would draw the line at wearing a kilt in the entirely traditional manner, though. ;)

A woman on the bus this morning (7 a.m.) was wearing a red lace camisole, a pleated skirt that just covered her rear, black hose and high heels. She was 40 if she was a day. She had the figure for the outfit, but it just made her look older.

It would seem then that bad taste does not discriminate by age

Nothing looks trashier than a grown up women who does her clothing shopping in the juniors section! The clothing is so... *searching for the right word* ...CHEAP and DISPOSABLE looking. I think they get a certain amount of satisfaction from the fact that they can still fit in the clothing. Just because it fits you, that doesn't mean you should wear it! That kind of clothing only serves to make the wearer looked even more aged.

Without intending to cast any aspertions in relation to the character of the lady in question, it does sound like she was headed home after last night rather than out for the day. Such an outfit, whatever its suitability for night time (or not, depending upon the case), when worn as daywear would I think have the unfortunate effect of giving the wearer the appearance of someone who works in the less salubrious end of the, eh.... service industry.

Edward is a true gentleman who wouldn't use such terms in mixed company and who wouldn't resort to name calling such as Day Hooker, Working Girl, Lady of the Early Morning.
I have never owned or worn a pair of red shoes because of that connotation.

lol lol lol lol I know but it just took so many sentences to describe one word. ;) :p

6 polite sentences that can be uttered at a mixed company dinner table, is by far the more eloquent speech, which is what this place is supposed to be about. Class and style..not economy of words to the point where we use less then polite dinner table conversation.

Gentlemen of Downtown Denver

I got off the bus at the same stop as the woman in the pleated skirt. I'm proud to say that while the men she passed stopped to look at her, none of them giggled or pointed or made snide remarks. A gentleman treats as woman as a lady because he is a gentleman.

RED SHOE DIARY

Paisley said:
I had never heard of the red shoe connotation.

I have a very dear friend, Michaela, a punk rock girl. Wears a little mixnmatch vintage once in a while. About a decade ago when I was living in the UNSALUBRIOUS and FREQUENTED BY UNSALUBRIOUS PERSONS OF BOTH ORIGINAL AND NEWLY MINTED FEMALE EXTRACTION WHO PERFORM UNSALUBRIOUS ACTS FOR CASH tenderloin, she used to visit me, wearing red shoes, fairly wild makeup, and stockings; naturally by the time she got to my door, she was in a fairly bad mood from the (honestly made) ASPERSIONS on her CHARACTER she heard on the streets and sidewalks of the neighborhood.

Another time she and I were in a bar, the Ha Ra, and I struck up a conversation with an old man; he said to me, "she's pretty. Where did you get her?" which years later I realized was NOT an innocent comment.

It's all in the red shoes (and, in her case, the wild makeup, dyed hair, stockings, and various other attention-getting articles of clothing).
