Yes he does have a twinkle! That pic was taken in 1944 when he was 17 and had run off to sea... When I was a little kid, he reminded me of Quint from Jaws!

As most are explaining what flavour of Brit they are, I should say I'm a Midlands boy, brought up in the Northants countryside. That's just made me realise I've lived in a 30 mile radius for most of my life, as I don't live that far from the village I grew up in from the age of 4! University years in Oxford and London are as far as I've managed to go, I've travelled plenty, just always seem to have lived in this region.

Oh, and I'm a Brit in the fullest sense, being equal parts English, Irish, Scots and Welsh

I think that's rather lovely really, if it ain't broke don't fix it and all that!

I always used to come to my town when i was a kid for holidays and always said i would live here one day and after gazillions of years moving from pillar to post i've arrived!

Actually Billy Childish bought cough candy twists in the sweet shop, so he went up in my estimation on that fact alone, and yes, he did sport the most splendid 'tache too!
