My wife bought this for me as a present. It isn't authentic in its cut, but I had been scouring the Lounge and manufacturer websites for a while and she had seen it and went with the LL Bean Flying Tiger. I have read reviews etc, but a reason she went with this was an open-ended return policy and shipping both ways in case it didn't work out. Not sure exactly how slim/tight to the body this is supposed to be. The hat is vintage BTW. Thanks.

Depends on what you want

A little tough to tell from one photo, but in general the Bean jacket seems to have considerable extra sleeve length, body length, and chest roominess. Many people wear their jackets that way-- a style that fashion writer Bruce Boyer famously said "fits where it touches."

The military fit more popular on this board is based on World War II norms-- in which lean young men who knew that they might have to leave a crippled airplane through a narrow hatchway wore snugly fitted jackets that were often not an inch too long or wide.

If you are interested in achieving more of that military trimness, it appears that you could easily go down one size (L to M) or even two. But in the end it's your look, so rock it as it pleases you.

I am a bit disappointed in LL Beans jackets. A number of years ago (?10-15 years), these jackets were made in the US. You coul buy in actual even sizes. 38, 40, 42, 44 etc. I had one. It fit well. I then ordered a replacement as I had gained weight. Then after I got it I discovered that they started making them outside of the US (Turkey). They made them with the sleeves and body too long. I ended up getting mine altered by shortening the sleeves, and the body. You jacket shows the extra length I am talking about.

In all do respect I would say if this was a suit, it is not your size. Too long and too big. Think of a A2 fitting like a suit. That is how it should feel and look.

Maybe return the jacket and go with one size down. If the problem persists, repeat the process. This one looks way too big and long.
