How do folks react to your hat wearing?

That's a great shot GHT. I hope I've still got it in me whenever and if my own daughters get married.

I finally got the comment I've read about here, when i went hatless to the bank yesterday. "Whoa, I didn't even recognize you without your hat!"
Since I've only recently begun wearing hats regularly, I got the opposite comment from an acquaintance today. "Hey, I've never seen you in a hat before. I almost didn't recognize you." He was only joking, but I think it counts. :D

...I can show you a couple of their guests...
Except for the fact that your hand is obscuring the lovely lady's face, that's an extremely nice photo!

Thankyou for the compliment, the photo was contrived by one of the photographers, I showed my wife your kind sentiment, to which she replied: "Aw shucks!" Here's the lady without anything obscuring her: And thanks again.

Hi Folks,

I get lots of compliments and also some off handed compliments, IE, you look like dick tracy, recently while wearing my suspenders in plain view someone said I look like Larry King, Just last night while having a beer and watching a baseball game at the local pub( Young crowd) a young lady complimented me on my nice fedora and I quote " You look like the guy from Mobster Squad, very handsome" Her escort wearing a baseball cap and shirt with a persons name above a number, gave me a dirty look and said " Elliot Ness"

I feel most men are envious of my appearance/attire and most woman wish there man would dress more like a man and therefore be less envious.

Best regards

Hi Folks

It appears to me that in a world where flip flop, and tee shirts and trousers being worn down around ones buttocks and woman wearing jeans two sizes to small that a classy man or woman dressed in proper gentleman or lady attire may be considered to be "Ostentatious" to some.

However here on the lounge we belief in the maxim that a lady and or Gentleman can never be "Over Dressed". Nor do we dress I believe to win approval from others, we dress so to feel that we are actually paying respect to ourselves and to others along with looking good and feeling confident in our appearance. This is not being ostentatious this is simply a way of life for 'a lounger"

On a personal note please let me opine that I for one would never want to be caught dead in a pair of baggy buttock hugging trousers, nor a pair of silly looking flip flops. The thought is quit revolting.

Best regards.

I was pumping gas after leaving work last night and was wearing my Champ Chrome fedora and my normal work wear - minus my suit jacket. This "lady" pulls up to the pump beside mine and I hear her make a comment about me being a cop (huh?). I can only assume she did this to scare he child into submission from some transgression of youth. Anyway, I hadn't finished pumping my gas yet when they came out of the store (paid first) and the kid looked at me and asked if I was really a cop. I responded "No sir, I can't be a cop, I don't like donuts" The kid looked confused, and the mother literally walked into her car and grunted with a look of "oh my god did he just say that?" on her face.

I turned around to see a high school buddy who IS a cop standing there, in uniform, pumping gas into his crusier from the other side of the gas pump I was using.

Needless to say, I am going to buy him few rounds this weekend.

Of course, he doesn't know that the rounds will be a box of donuts!!!!

Here's how I look at it: "IT'S JUST A HAT!" Put it on, it's there, take it off, it's not there. And as Graham Thompson puts it: "Life's better in a great hat". And I believe him.

Thompson is so right. It's ok to wear a cap, maybe with the peak to one side, or even, back to front. It's ok to match it with, words fail me, some sort of pants, that hang so low, the wearer looks like those emperor penguins waddling around at the south pole. The hoodie has always got some profanity emblazoned across it. FCUK is popular, it supposed to mean: French Connection UK. Yeah right. But step out in a suit, or jacket and trousers, collar and tie, a smart hat and a pair of brogues and you are deemed a threat.

That's a lovely photo! Thank you for sharing it! :yo:
thanks again Zombie, man, your avatar freaks me.

We have a particular phenomenon in our country, it's known as Dad Dancing. You will see this strange ritual, usually at weddings and other family gatherings. The Dad, having spent a lifetime avoiding the ballroom floor, is coerced into doing at least one dance, perhaps because it's his daughter's wedding, he has, more often than not, consumed copious amounts of alcohol, giving him Dutch courage. He staggers out onto the floor, knowing he's got two options, just stand there gyrating from left to right and back again, or, go for it. The alcohol nearly always wins. He goes for it, like a demented church bell ringer. So cringeworthy that even his daughter buries her face in her hands. Just curious, does this specimen exist elsewhere?

This is the New Conformity, created by the cultural revolution of the late 1960s as a protest against what that generation thought was conformity, but which is much more disapproving and even tyrannical.
I don't think that people react much when hats are worn for practical reasons, against cold, rain or sun; I find that (probably for that reason) someone is much more likely to escape silly comments when he wears a hat with an overcoat or trench-coat than with a suit alone.

You know, perhaps in my younger years I might've gotten a look or an occasional comment about my fedoras. But now I've apparently reached the age where - when I'm wearing one of my lids - I'm no longer viewed as making a fashion statement or showing off or whatever. Now, apparently, I'm just another old goat wearin' a hat!

But...who cares? So long as I get to wear a hat!

Thanks...I think. lol I started using Zombie_61 as a username about a decade ago, and I've used it on almost every forum I've joined just to be consistent. When I found that image online (from a video game called "Stubbs the Zombie") I thought it would be a good way to combine my username and the theme of this forum.

Ohhh, you bet it does. I think it's so prevalent that it's more surprising to find a dad that actually knows how to dance.

I get nothing but positive comments, almost all from women.

I'm guessing if the people I come into contact with have a problem with my wearing hats, they're keeping to themselves.

I'm in the SF Bay area this week on business, and I'd had a very long 14-hour meeting yesterday. Last night I'm sitting outside at the hotel bar, around the fire pit, enjoying a cigar and a glass of cognac. I'm wearing what I wore to work...trousers, sport coat, minus the tie because I can't stand simply loosening a tie, and a fairly simple wool fedora. It was quite cool and the hat was keeping my head warm. The waitress walks out to check on me and says "wow, look at you. You really got it goin' on with the hat." I said "thank you". That was a compliment, right?

I've always gotten positive remarks, or looks.

I'm early 30s, and have been wearing fedoras for about 5 years. They only person who has ever said anything negative is my grandmother, who simply said "Why do you want to wear that, people don't wear those these days." Of course, she's a firm believer in being a follower.

From my fur felts to my straws, new and vintage, I always get compliments, and it's become something people remember about me and something that signifies me. Doesn't matter what I'm wearing, jeans or suits, t-shirts or button downs, I wear one (generally not with shorts). I frequently get compliments from random strangers both young and old, the ladies dig it, and people pay attention and notice me in a good way. At first I was self-conscious about wearing them and the looks I received (because fedoras are not commonplace these day), but now i realized it was all about admiration and style. ;)

I have been called a pimp and a cowboy but the negative or off-handed comments are rare. I have gotten a TON of positive feedback of people thinking it is cool or they want one. 19 yr old kid at the grocery store asked me how to fit one for his head shape the other day. I told him I better see him with a proper hat within a month lol

Usually children say, 'Hey, cowboy,' when I'm wearing a fedora, so if an adult does it, he is basically a child.
