Hold on more or less unwritten styling-rules or break for health-reasons?

What do you mean? What do you prefer?

For example:
I could surely combine the old-fashion items with elegant leather-shoes or other nice shoes, but there are two reason for me, to prefer my (luckily) dark coloured walking-boots (gym shoes <> trekking boots-hybrid) as universal shoes. Especially, because of the damping-sole.
I'm a hobbyphotographer and walk around relatively much and of course often offroad. ;) And basically I'm an ectomorph person and I can't stress my feet generally, sadly. The shoes have to give me correct stabilization and rest to the sole and all is fine. :)

I wear low, flat, orthopedic-grade housewife oxfords or saddle shoes nearly all the time. Life's too short to wear uncomfortable shoes.

I'd rather have long thin needles thrust into my eyes than mince around in stiletto heels, and I don't care how formal the occasion is.

Comfort and foot care trump style always - a rule that only becomes more obvious as one gets older. My foot issue is flat-feet that have gotten meaningfully worse in middle age. However, I have fully solved it with a Dr Scholls arch inserts. With those in, I can wear almost any shoe comfortably again - heaven.

It would only be the sensible thing to wear what doesn't cause discomfort or make the condition worse. I consider myself very lucky that the shoes I'm most comfortable in these days also happen to be my aesthetic preference!

I've worn orthotics most of my adult life. I even have a set taped into my sandals. Without them my back and legs are a mess in short order.

As for everyday wear, I prefer casualized versions of traditional looking shoes. My three favorite pair are my black and brown lace-up wingtips and cap-toes. They all have rubber soles, and generously padded interiors. I can wear them in comfort all day, and look good doing so.

Years ago, after having had high arches forever, I suddenly developed flat feet. Yes, I went from extreme to the other. My testimony: comfort trumps style, what ever the problem. The one kind of shoe that always works is desert boots (chukkas), although inserts my be required, but these are always my most comfortable shoes. A close second place is Converse all stars.
