History of the Fedora

Can anyone give me some history of the Fedora; for example, when did they first become popular, when they decline and lose popularity and why? Also, besides the Indy movies, what are some movies from the made in the 30s-60s which feature fedoras?

I think it was Humphrey Bogart's father that started the craze. And then that darn John Kennedy killed hats. They shoulda shot that guy... Oh Wait! They did.

Umm, movies from the 30s to the 60s with hats?

ALL OF THEM every single one without exception,
In fact it wasn't until 1971 when American law was altered to allow movie producers to show a hatless man in an outdoors closeup shot. French cinema of the 50s did sometimes show hatless men, but no one ever noticed because all french films have hundreds of naked women in them, so who has time to look for hats.

Yeah, check and see if you get Turner Classic Movies (TCM) on your cable network. If so, check out the films. In many of the 40s black & white films it's not only the hats, but the cars, the architecture, the clothes, the glamour, the stilted performances... It was an era of real style. No commercials on TCM, either.
