By reading up on a completely different story on the internet I came across a schooner used by the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) to supply and police the coasts of arctic Canada between the 1920s and 50s. The ship was the first vessel to completley circumnavigate the Americas. St. Roch is today a museum ship, and there is a great website with historic photographs. Lots of them are grainy, but some offer interesting detail on the clothing (Mackinaw jackets!) and equipment used by St. Roch's crew. Perhaps this is of interest to some of you- or it might help to cool you down, looking at pics of ice and snow...
