Help with Vintage Display Case

I have several antique booths and just acquired this display counter and am looking for some help. I will be refinishing the outside of the counter, but am looking for ideas for the INSIDE. I know this is a somewhat general question but what would you do to "Dress it up"? I know a lot depends on what antiques will go in the case, either large or small, but I am kind of looking for creative decorating ideas.

This may or may not help you. For photography of jewelry and antique militaria I took to using a dark blue velvet backdrop. Maybe line the shelf with velvet?
