Help with Thirft Found Hat

Recent Arrival

I just had a St. Regis Royal Deluxe arrive in yesterday's mail. It was said to look unworn--I think I'd have a hard time finding a new and modern hat on the shelf that looked as unworn as this one. And, although not a big Homburg person, the 7 3/8 Long Oval from this 50's hat is a perfect fit!

I believe that the first homberg is mid 50's. Its clear plastic rather than the oil silk cover leads me to think this way.

60's type St. Regis

What makes you say '60s on that? Everything about it says mid, maybe late '50s to me. By the '60s, stetson was using different sweatbands (narrower, different color, different texture) , size tags (rectangular instead of round) and the dimensions had changed (lower crown, stingier). The liner is of a newer design than the rest of the hat, so it must have been when that pattern liner was first introduced, before the switched everything over to the newer style.

That particular liner had a long life. It may have been used in the late 50's at the earliest. It was used through the sixties with the black rectangular tag with gold numbers. I have that liner used with the standard round hang tag but with the liner glued in...definitely a later factory practice for a while. That medallion was used with the colored liners with the black hang tags and black sweats. My dad was a daily hat wearer and the hats he left behind I was able to date by photos and also the home phone numbers that he would right in his hats(we moved in 1967). After the black hang tag they went with a gold tag with black numbers...this one quite often seen with the old 25 logo with piping in the liner. The white satin changed numerous times with the check,the Stetson name and even the placement of the seam to the side again. These thing were after the Philadelphia closing and the start of Steven's production at St. Joe. What hard dates or time lines are you using for your thinking? Where is my thinking wrong?

Hello ladies and gentleman,

I’m new to the lounge and have been collecting vintage fedoras for only a couple of years. Last week I was on vacation and visited several thrift stores. I purchased two fedoras and would like the opinion of those who are more knowledgeable. The felt on these is incredibly malleable. They will take any hand creased shape. No steam required. They are also in near mint condition (only damage is to the sweatband which is in great condition overall). I would like to k ow what decade these are from, if possible. The pictures that follow are of the treasures I found. One is a Stetson Playboy and the other a Stetson Excellent Quality. Thank you for your time and I hope all is well with you and yours!

The globe liner logo makes me think that is an older hat.. Both look to be in great condition.

The Playboy is marked 7 1/8 and the Excellent a 7. With some gentle stretching I can get the Excellent to fit just right for a night out.

That’s a 1920‘s Exposition Medal. The World Fairs were called Expositions. I have one also from Silverwoods.

Nice; definitely on my get-list. I have an Exposition Label bowler.
