Help sizing Aero ANJ-4 15mm

Dear Fellow members,

As the title implies, I am currently in the process of ordering a custom ANJ-4 15mm redskin, vicenza seal trims. Despite talking with Aero and the help of their production team, they could not give me the confidence in the proper sizing to take.

I am 168 cm - 5ft6
weight 69kg - 152 pounds
chest relaxed 96cm - 38" (body measurement) - 100 expanded -39.3"
waist 84cm- 33" (body measurement) 89cm - 35" on top of belt&jeans
usual sleeve : 61-62cm - 24-24.4"(non shearling jacket)
usal jacket length 60cm -23.6"(non shearling jacket)
shoulder 44cm - 17.3" (non shearling jacket)

Im looking for a trim fit but without sacrificing mobility/comfort.
I dont know if the 38" chest or 40" would be more appropriate since i dont know how much space they let extra in chest measruement. NB: Im going 15mm fleece. Holly & production advice suggested 38"

Also for length, being short, I usually go 58-60 cm in body(23.6") but with winter shearling probably around 61 cm - 24"? but Holly said She would not size under 63cm- 25" back length for the 40". And also waist taper would be max 1 size.

I am a little confused as to what I should do to size this properly. Any advice is welcome and I thank you all for reading!

As reference the brown jacket is 58cm long (22.8”) with 44cm shoulders (17.3”)

and the blue one 62cm long (24.4”) and 47cm shoulders (18.5”)

If you like it short, I would take the length of your other jackets and add 1 - 1.5 cm.
Shoulder width and p2p 1.5 cm more than usual. Sleeve length can remain the same. hips max 1.5 cm more than your normal jackets. This should cover the 15mm thick fleece well.
I would probably take 38 if I want it to be tighter. I have a 43.3 chest and a 42 Coastal Command (RAF) fits well.

I personally would go with the size 40 & definitely don't go any shorter than 25in back length,

Given the detailed level of your questions here, it may be in your best intrest to find some sort of stockist, or even Aero itself and try a few on in person. Numbers alone may not get you where you want to be...

Would love to the problem is there is no stockist where I am, it means the need to travel with plane in corona time, which is complicated not even talking bout spendings. I do thank all the advices though

Thank you! Would you say that shearling fit differently than regular jackets? Say if 38 leather is good for me, would shearling 38 be the same?

I'd go with 40 and no less than 25 for the back as well, I have an Aero ANJ-4 it's a 44 and I have a 42 inch chest, it fits well with room to layer but it's not too loose.

Can't go by the numbered sizes, especially with Aero. I think I'm anywhere from a 38 to a 44 in various styles. And I've seen crazy variances in their numbered sizes as well.

Adding a little to the ptp and shoulder is a no brainer, but not as much as you might think. I bought a used 42 Aero B3 because I thought I needed to pad for the shearling (20 mm in that case). Was really too big and ultimately a tailor had to fix the body for me. Shoulders are lost cause, but somewhat ok with that style.

I think a .50 inch to ptp (remember this means 1 total inch of circumference) and .50 inch to shoulder is more than enough. The shearling compresses some. The bottom hem tends to give an indicator if you're on the right track. I'd also compensate about .5 inch more over your "usual" jacket spec.

Obviously there's a lot of room (so to speak) for "right fit". Try reading the Schott customer reviews about what sizes people get. Two people same height and weight will have sizes completely different and exalt they have the perfect fit.

I can tell you though, generally speaking, there's no way you're a 40 if you want a trim fit. First of all it's hard to achieve trim in these kinds of jackets. So it's really going to mean snug without it being overly baggy. And forget about mobility. I can't say I've really followed ANJ sizing, but more B3, B6, and various Irvings and I'm typically a 40 at 6'0 185lbs. I bet you're a 38 skewing on the smaller side or even a 36. I know I've seen other TFLers with smaller frames with these jackets. Try doing a search and see if they reference the sizing. I think maybe @Bfd70 has/had one.

Is this jacket worn long? I would have understood the thread creator to mean that he would rather not have room for layer. Of course, it depends on where you live, but with 15 mm shearling you rarely need multiple layers. But of course also a question of taste.
Here is my Aero Shearling, which is rather tight, although it is usually worn rather wide. I can well imagine the tighter and shorter cut on an ANJ-4.

I've never had a shearling jacket, Aero or otherwise, just have not preffered them. ToomanyHats only One Head has a lot of good info above...

I think they look better when a bit longer, just my opinion. This is what stops me from getting an Eastman Irvin (well, the price doesn't help ), although they made them an inch longer a few years back as far as I know.

Go to history preservation website. Read their sizing tips and product measurements for eastman anj-4. If that cannot give you sufficient confidence then you’ll need a leap of faith.

25" back length is really long for someone who is 5'6". I understand some jackets are meant to be a little longer, but 25" is really long for something thst isn't a coat for someone of that height.

I personally would try to find something shorter or go for a different model entirely. Sometimes a jacket thst you like the look of just isn't actually right for you. For example, I would love a RMC j24, but the cut of that jacket simply does not work for me.

I bought a size 38 ANJ-4 from Aero sale page a few years ago. The description stated the batch had been made for the Japanese market.
I am 5'6. I have put on some weight over the years. My chest was 38 inches and waist 32 back when I bought it. I have never worn it cause it is too warm over here. Back then it felt loose but not too much and I could layer underneath. I was wearing only a cotton oxford shirt underneath when I tried it on. It is not excessively long. I have no idea how thick mine is though.

Oh hi. I can get y’all more information about mine when I’m back from the weekend.

I’m a size 39” chest, 5’11, and I ordered a size 40. The only thing I customized on it were the back length (I think it was 26 or 25.5”) and sleeve length (25.5”). Probably could have gone to 26” for the sleeve length.
