Help me ID this type of cap

My best approximations of what it looks like. Kind of like an officer's cap, except not rigid in brim or crown.

You see it in Westerns a lot--which would put it in the Victorian era, so before TFL's main period of interest, but I was hoping y'all could help me out.

-One of the young bounty hunters wears one in The Wild Bunch
-Several can be seen in movies about 1850s Mormon pioneers
-Some of the whiskey boat men in Lonesome Dove wear it
-The blacksmith in The Quick and the Dead (Sam Elliot version) wears one
-Seen on German and English workers, 19th century

I realize these are really obscure references, but this type of cap is one I've only seen in a select few places throughout the years, and so when I did see it, intrigued, I filed away the references in my mind.
