Help For My Lady Friend

Hello folks.. I posted this before, but it disappeared in the great "Thread Blackout of '06" as I call it.

Anyways

I'm just beginning to do the vintage fashion thing, and of course, all my friends want to follow suit. Especially this one gal who's one of my closest friends. She asked me to look for some dresses for her on eBay, she wants something like a cocktail dress, as well as one a bit more formal. Now. She's 6 feet tall, and wears a size 11 dress. She's not fat or anything, she's just tall, like one of the Amazons. So will vintage clothing work OK for her? What are some terms I should be searching for on eBay, like different types of dress, etc. Or, is there a better source for women's vintage clothing?

I'm pretty clueless about women's vintage stuff, but this gal is really gorgeous and she'd look great in some classic threads. So, if anyone has any recommendations on where I should begin, I appreciate it! Thanks!

I think Ebay is always a good bet, simply because there is SO much on there. What you need to do is find out your friend's bust, waist, and him measurement. Also measure across the back of her shoulders. She then matches up those measurments to the dresses, and you can actually do a search for the measurments you take in the different categories by clicking on clothing-vintage clothing-women's clothing- then the era you're looking for. Put in the largest measurement, for example, then click the "search desctiptions" button. I might not have all the exact names right, but you get the general idea, then weed through all those. But even better than Ebay is going to the vintage clothing stores in your area so she can try some stuff on. Most vintage stores and Ebay sellers don't take returns, so make sure she's going to be happy with it, or in the case of Ebay, that you're willing to relist it or have a friend who would buy it if it doesn't end up fitting. One tiny thing to add which i forgot about the first time I bought. You need to remember that she needs to have a bit of -wearing ease- in addition to her measurements....ie if her waist is 29, you might want to search for things at least 1-2 inches bigger then that measurement, otherwise it will fit but she wont be able to move.....

Thank you ladies so much for the advice. I'll go over tomorrow to get those measurements. I have to measure her son for a fedora anyways. He's 13 and thinks they're just the coolest. I see it as my contribution to America's youth. I'll let you know if I come across anything interesting. And of course, if I purchase something and it fits well, you'll all be the first to see pics.

I now quite a few people who reenact, or collect 40's clothing who are about the same size as your friend and they can find clothing that fits them so you should have no problem find something, especially on ebay!!
I would say though, if you are going to get shoes aswell, get the measurements as not all vitage sizes are the same as todays size, as I have found out!
