Hi,
I have found your cozy corner of the world while searching about for pieces of a USAAC Officers uniform. There is a really unique atmosphere going on here that has drawn me in. A short bit of myself:
I am an advertising/design type, who thinks he must be a reincarnated WW2 fighter pilot. For about 5 years I have been ridding the virtual skies of 109s, 190s, Maachis, Zeros and other axis targets with a flight sim called IL2:Sturmovik. In a couple of words, Total Blast.
Anyway, a previous lifetime interest in things WW2 from books to modeling to movies and you have a recipe for someone stuck in time! The one thing I haven't done yet is collect real artifacts. In November, I am taking my sweetheart to an old timey USO Hangar Dance. She is an unbelievable swing dancer, so I can't resist. The first thing I bought was a mint officer's tunic from ebay. I plan to gather the rest in authentic pieces over time, but for this event I am making do.
So far, I found these Dockers:
I know the toe is incorrect, but they are dang close for $30 and I would have preferred this look back in the day anyway.
Pants: Found some pinkish slacks for now until I bite the repro bullet or score a nice pair off ebay.
Crusher: Found one at Garcia, that unless the image is really fooling me, should do an ok job.
Chocolate shirt: Again, till I bite the repro bullet, I am having the most difficult time finding a good stand in for this piece.
So, if anyone has suggestions for stand-in slacks, shirt, tie, please let me know. I also need the 3" pilot wings and ribbon strip for the tunic, some captains bars, tie, and belt.
I have searched many of the links listed in these forums, but I know there are folks here will all kinds of great ideas and connections. Thanks for reading such a long post from a noob. Glad I found this place. One last thing I need to pick up before the dance: An engagement ring! I plan to ask my highschool sweetheart to marry me after a 15 year separation. What better time and place than a USO dance?
