Thedi leathers makes one that is a button up but otherwise identical design. If I weren't such a chicken, I would have bought one. Alas, with a baby on the way I am too poor now anyway.

I sure like the looks of that Johnson leather jacket, tmitchell.

I always find it interesting when members here say that they find FQHH cumbersome, restrictive, or too heavy. I wore my long halfbelt pretty consistently on a recent trip up north and I never noticed any of that. I'm coming to the conclusion that some batches of HH must really vary from others.

I think personal preference explains it rather than the leathers.

That one is gone then gone again. Enjoyed wearing it. The Johnson Leathers are nice. It was a beast. A member here ordered it new. I have thought about talking with them on a jacket. I read the reports here which are most positive, heck I ordered a Test from LW!

I have a custom Johnson similar to tmitchell's above which is made of the 4 oz + black overdye cowhide and weighs 8.25 lbs. I agree with him...It is a beast, but I was expecting that and I really like it. Makes me feel almost invincible on the motorcycle.

My heaviest jacket is a Langlitz Padded Pocket Columbia in Goatskin, approximately size 38. It weighs around 8.5 lbs and is a beast to wear but very pliable. I ordered a Size 38 Aero Highwayman in Heavy Steer which I expect to be even heavier (or at least I hope so).

As has been mentioned already, its definitely stiffness and not weight that (at least for me) determines appropriate situations for a jacket wear. 5oz bison and 5oz steer are different animals entirely (pun totally intended)

Okay, I have yet to receive it, but my incoming Aero Highwayman in brown Heavy Steer lined with heavy Strome weight tartan weighs 4.5kg (9.9lbs) according to my shipment invoice; thus outweighing my Langlitz as I had hoped! Will put up a thread as soon as I receive the jacket :)

I wonder who has the heaveist jacket on the site...
That’s probably me, Arrandale. I ordered Johnson Leather a jacket made of 7.3 ounce bullhide with detachable 1 inch mouton shearling lining. Besides the mouton lining, the jacket is equipped with thinsulate under the heavy nylon lining in the body and the sleeves.
It weighs 14 lbs=6.3 Kg.
The last photo is the Yah-Ta Hey coat which is actually a copy of the Langlitz Red Dog coat. It was sold by Scarecrow company which was in Jiyugaoka, Tokyo. It went bankrupt 10 years ago. The coat weighs 13.5 lbs.
The coat was made by Johnson Leather. It is far better than Langlitz Red Dog coat in every aspect.

Aero Highwayman is very well known in Japan. Takuya Kimura, a very popular Japanese actor wore this jacket in a TV drama in 1994. By the end of the week the jacket was gone from all the stores in Tokyo.
In those days Aero Leather wasn’t well known but after the drama many stores started importing their products. Highwayman and Half Belted is especially popular.
When Aero Leather took direct orders from Japan it wasn’t that expensive. But eventually they established Aero Leather Clothing Japan, an ‘exclusive authorized distributing company’. Like Langlitz and Vanson, Aero Leather jackets became very expensive. The Highwayman is 180000 yen=US$1423.45 .

My thedi civil B3 XXL WEIGHS AROUND 8lbs
Thedi Jackets aren’t well known in Japan, as a matter of fact I didn’t know them until my friend, a Danish Englishman told me about it. They seem to make very sturdy and cautiously sewn excellent products.
Do they accept direct orders?

@Arrandale Have you receive the jacket in Japan yet?!
Yes, I did. Mr. Alan Zaffrin, the superb craftsman in San Francisco, the owner of Johnson Leather named the jacket
‘ the Beast’. He has a very good sense in picking the name, as well as his magnificent craftsmanship.
Mr. Zaffrin used to supply custom made jackets to Scarecrow Company, a small import store in Tokyo. The owner Mr. Narusawa named the double motorcycle jacket ‘ Montana’ and the coat ‘ Tacoma’. He was just naming them to sound like something from Northern US.
The Beast is a great name for my jacket as it is as heavy as Ancient Greek brass armor. I’m astonished by American’s taste of naming, such as Beast, Behemoth, Killer, Assassin, Monster, Devil, Satan etc.. It sounds great!
First photo is Montana, the 2nd Tacoma. The rest is the Beast.

What’s the difference?
