Looks like Lucy has a hot date today, she's all spiffed up with this old Dobbs.

Did someone saying Flying V?

You have to play them like a classical guitar when you're sitting down.
One thing's for sure, there's no problem with upper fret access and they're light enough.
Albert King had 5 V's & they were all carved with an arched top across the face as he preferred. I believe Joe Bonamassa owns one, Steven Seagal owns three in his collection, & one went back to Gibson.

I didn't know that about his guitars, thanks!
I knew he played a right handed one lefty and learned how to play by inventing his own tuning to where it sounded good to him.
I had never seen a Flying V until I discovered Wishbone Ash as a kid after reading about them in Guitar Player Magazine.

I think when Gibson quit using Tom Nelson pickups (or Nelson left Gibson, whatever that deal was) Albert stayed with THN pickups on his guitars. And Nelson may have actually carved & built the last couple of guitars for him. He gave credit of his sound to those Nelson pickups.

Thanks for the invite and bump, Ross!
I don’t know...ya gotta figure that if a 4 inch sound hole improves tone and volume, then it seems to me that that wire guitar being pretty much ALL sound hole it’s GOT TO SOUND AWESOME!!!
I’m guessing that’s what Clarence White was thinking, too.

And while I’m at it, that miniature bronzed Nick Fouquet hat is probably worth more than that fine, old western Stetson. :)
Nice photo, by the way!

Your 18 looks killer! I love old, beat up guitars, including re-fins.
Makes me wonder what caused the dark spot just behind the bridge?

The first time lacquering a guitar I built the finish ended up as thick as a Sonny’s Pit BBQ table! Had to re-finish later since it was such a dead stick. On the next go ‘round with the spray gun I shot a fine mist of nitrocellulose up into the air then waved the guitar through it!!
Just a tiny exaggeration, but rest assured, the second time the finish was super thin. Too thin, really, but the box sounds great.

I’ve posted this custom built “Griffin” acoustic in several other threads providing a spec run down, so I’ll just add here that this thing is an absolute powerhouse. Deep, dark tones from straight grained back and sides makes it sound like a Brazilian bucks!!

Thought I’d also include a rare Mark Leaf travel case and a new pair of Justin slickers that I’m diggin’.
The hats are a 1940 long hair Royal Stetson, 60s melusine Kevin McAndrew 13 pleat bow and a favorite 50s Pearl Gray Champ.

Nice, Fellas, I don't think I've ever played an old Martin that I didn't think sounded good. Old Gibson's are a different story ; )
Here's a 57' and a mid 20s 0018K that I no longer have.
