Hat stretching out?

I have had an old Flechet for about 10 years now, and only pulled it out once every few years. For the last few years, it has been a size or two too small for my head.

But tonight, I picked up some new clothes for an ongoing thing at school (on fridays, we're all going to wear sweatervests, for no particular reason but to look sexy, so I picked up a sweatervest). I was trying on shirts to wear it with, when I tried on my brown one. I for some reason took it upon myself to pair it with the Flechet (which I haven't even touched in a good 3 months) and it seemed to fit perfectly.

Is there any reason that a hat would stretch out about a full size or so?

Which would explain why a 7 1/2 that used to fit...is now way to tight....and a 7 5/8 is perfect. So it comes down to cutting the hair or keeping the mess that I have...or buy different size hats for when I have hair and when I get a haircut.....such a dilema...and Indycop shaved his skull?

I have had several experiences in reputable hat shops where clerks told me that hair length wouldn't affect fit, but I've always found that it does. I usually buzz my hair to 1/8 of an inch all around, and when I start to get shaggy, my hats are definitely a bit tighter.

If you're noticing a drastic difference, I'd reccomend buying hats to fit you with hair, and sticking some paper or sizing foam under the sweatband for the first week after a haircut.
