I have a question on hat pins and do not anyone's experience with them, but here is my question. I have some hat pins, but none of them have a end cap, now is a end cap something on the point end of some pins or on all pins & mine are just gone and I should find some? Thank You!

As nobody had an answer, I put end caps on all my pins, safety you know.

Hi,

End caps on the stick pins for my ties, for sure.

The hat pins that came with new hats I've bought didn't ring my chimes, so I pulled 'em all off. I'd probably go with the end caps if I ever decide to let any of them stay on. Same reason as you, safety.

Cheers,
Mark

It really depends on whether this is a man's or woman's hat pin for starters, and than we can move onto the era of the pin.

Since this appears to be a man's hat pin, I'd first have to see the pin to look at the construction (front and back) to answer your question as to what is period-apprpriate.

However, I'd suggest capping your pin either way (unless you are a stickler for period-appropriate style) as this will contribute to your pin NOT falling out and being lost forever.

There are various methods to secure the ends: in front of the ribbon, in back of the ribbon, or in the ribbon itself. For a sample of the last one, go to the hat thread and see the 14k hair pin I've had pushed into the brown Bebe hat for years. I posted a picture yesterday.

Unless you have something matchin, I think it looks better behind the ribbon, but this might chaff your felt and ribbon and create an unseemly bulge in your ribbon too.

If you post a front and back picture of your pin, I will check my collection of end-caps. I have quite a few extras and might have a matching one to send you.

If I don't have an extra, just go to a thrift store and buy a cheap woman's stick pin and use that end cap instead. The pin usually runs around a dollar.
