I watched the film Surrogates last night and liked the look of Bruce Willis's halfbelt that he wears in it. Searching around on the internet I came across this site:

It has a selection of vintage and modern day jackets that you see in movies.

Has anyone used it before? Is it legit? I don't know why but I got a feeling its not what its making out to be. The prices of the jackets alone are interesting - £149 for the halfbelt seems too good to be true.

Looks dodgy to me, as the pictures of the House MD jacket are from the Aero USA website.

Yeah Dav, thats what I thought. Plus the price of the House M.D jacket compared to Aero's pricing is insane.

Well, I never deal with this website, but the photos shown on the website are photos taken from this forum http://www.filmjackets.com/forum/

The jacket is a vintage one. it's not a reproduction for the Surrogates jacket.

If you want a reproduction of the jacket, you can have it at Tony Nowak Original before they close doors, but it's quite expensive (but worth it, IMO).

There are no photos of the jackets they sell only the originals they are copied from.

No information about who made these jackets or materials or fit or anything. Not a very good sales approach. I'd go elsewhere for a reproduction jacket.

There are places in the L.A. area that sell wardrobe items used in films. A friend bought a kilt from Rob Roy years ago. I'll see if I can come up with the name of one of the stores.

A 1930s Halfbelt or Cossack with button cuffs is probably what you are looking for. I am convinced that BWs jacket in Surrogates is a vintage one or a very good repro which was very convincingly aged by an expert.

Here's my Aero 1930s HB in goatskin which is sort of similar in cut and fit. Of course it's non-distressed and probably thicker and heavier than the film jacket:

BTW. the jacket they list as the "House MD" jacket is NOT the "House MD" jacket.
That photo is the picture of the actor who plays "House, MD" (Hugh Laurie) wearing an Aero Highwayman during a photo shoot for People Magazine. I have also seen it used in adds by Aero.
Laurie has never worn this jacket in the TV series...(that I am aware of or have ever seen referenced.)

The original screen version was made by Vanson. It is a Vanson Model B with stripes and patches added.
The site I linked you too sells a replica of the jacket, also made by Vanson.

It would appear that "movieleatherjacket.com" is misleading customers into thinking the jacket in the Hugh Laurie photo was made by them.
In addition, they don't know their product, claiming the jacket in the photo is the same design as the "House MD" jacket.

I'd stay far away from them.
