Harbor Freight tool cart modification

For sometime now, I have wanted to do a modification on a Harbor Freight four or five drawer mechanic's tool cart. I saw a video online of a guy doing exactly what I wanted to do. So, when Harbor Freight recently put the carts on sale for 80 bucks off, I jumped on the deal and bought two of them. Below are the pictures of what they were as sold by HF and how they are now after the mod. To me, it just made sense because the space below the original top was a waste for storing tools or anything else.

Well done. Now you can work on the next modification. Install casters that will support more weight.

Harbor Freight can be hit or miss. Some of their items are excellent quality for the price. I used their pole saw today. It did what I needed it to do. It's not the best saw that you can buy. For the price, I've gotten my money's worth. Chopped down branches off a tree that got too big.

Thanks. I used all the swivel casters from the two boxes. They can't be changed without a complete disassembly of the cart. It was put together from bottom to top. It moves easily through my basement. It'll travel from a storage location at one end of the basement to my train room at the other end for work on the layout.

If I were using it, I would load it with tools. Double the capacity. Double the weight. Wrenches, sockets, hammers, and such; weigh a lot. In my garage, I would be scared of one wheel breaking, then the entire thing tips over, and everything spills out. But then again, you may not be loading it full of heavy tools. You should be find if you don't overload it.
