Handed down a leather jacket?

My 9 year old loves my Aero and Vanson's jackets. I like the idea of handing down them to him. I would have loved an awesome leather in high school or college, so I ask the masses... Have any of you bestowed a nice leather jacket to your child, or have been gifted one from your father/brother/uncle, etc?

Not yet but looking around. I've been buying smaller sizes of nylon flight jackets and cloth field jackets that'll fit my boy at different times as he grows and a small original A2 and G1 is on my list. He's already got several military caps jungle hats in peewee sizes that he uses at age 4, and the collection continues to grow.

yep, I have painted three flight jackets for my daughter, the first one being for her when she was 5. All 3 are too small for her now (they grow up fast) so I guess its time for another purchase and paint job!

I'd kinda like to buy a nice lether jacket for my brothers' kids, but at nine and five they're still at the point where they'd get at best a few months out of it. Maybe when they hit their teens....

My kids are 11, 9, 6 & 6. They'll just keep passing them down

I gave my old Schott B3 and A2 to my 20 year old nephew. Both were in good condition and he loves them.

Well, you've just given me the answer I didn't know I was looking for.
I can hear it now........ "Yes honey, I did buy another jacket, but you see, it's not really for me. This is an investment for my Sister's twins for when they are 18 and wanting to look really, really cool. One jacket would just cause fights and animosity between them...."

I wonder if that will work.........?

Sounds good to me, but it would depend on how long you've been married and how aware your wife is of your craven leather addiction.

I have recollections of having a little patched Top-Gunny G-1 as a child. I think I wore it when my dad had his private license, when I tagged along on his plane flights.

My kids and step kids are all grown up and approximately my size so passing on jackets and coats is easy and fairly frequent - all are pretty fashion conscious and confident enough to say 'no thanks' if it's unsuitable.
We've just added 'letters of wishes' to our wills asking the kids to take it in turns to choose from our collections and in the unlikely event of a disagreement put the item up for auction.

My son will probably inherit all mine but he is not really a leather wearer these days. I just hope if he sees them he gets a decent price and buys something he will really like. If he sold the lot he could easily get himself a Gibson guitar, but he has got a wait(I hope haha).
When he was 10, he had a nice vintage american hunting jacket, probably a copy of the original owners dads. When he grew out of it I sold it on to a guy for his son, who is now also to big for it, though he has left it for his grandchildren if they are into the same thing.

I've given several jackets to my son, my nephew, my uncle, my son's friends, a dude that does lots of repairs at the house, and friends. I guess I buy a lot and when I have too many, I can't be bothered to sell. I've never been given a jacket :) Right now I really don't have anything to give to anyone, as buying goes now to stereo equipment, trying to figure out the turntables and speakers.
