I can't see its return.... didn't Mandy lose his tache because the spin doctors thought the electorate found facial hair a sign of someone not to be trusted? Without making any comment with respect to my own political views, I suspect that facial hair for politicians has a long, long way to go before it can be rehabilitated, given the suspicion with which the likes of Gerry Addams, Blunkett, and Charles Clarke, each for their own reasons, have been viewed at one time and another.

(Though in the interests of fairness, I was never quite sure whether Clarke was attempting to cultivate facila hair, or simply far too lazt to shave properly. The rest of his appearance was always pretty sloppy).

In Canada we have on politician who sports a mustache. It suits him well but alas he wont be getting my vote for a wide array of reasons not to be discussed here.

It does seem rather short doesn't it?

Another local MP certainly blessed with a fine head, and face, of hair.

I can imagine that being the case but for Lincoln things were the reverse I believe?

Back in those days, though, beards were normal - now, very much not the case. Looking with 2000s eyes, Lincoln's sans moustache beard makes him look like a giant garden gnome to me. lol

In one of the Lincoln-Douglas debates, Douglas accused Lincoln of being two faced. Lincoln riposted, "If I had another face, do you thing I'd be wearing this one?"

I think it's a shame that few major politicians these days have moustache or beard, the last British Prime Minister with facial hair was Harold Macmillan, nearly 50 years ago.

..........I used to, still do really, rather like Macmillan's dress style.....it was very grouse moor.....but he used to sport a mean trilby and he also popularized for awhile the Edwardian custom when wearing evening dress of tucking the ends of the black bow tie unders the collar of a soft collared dress shirt.....I've seen pictures of him in the eighties still wearing it this way......a very good and substantial man in many ways who unfortunately didn't have a very happy family life.

I've read some of his memoirs, the earlier years. Cool guy. He's been described as the last "grandee" prime minister. Tho not from a noble family, he did marry a duke's daughter. He always looked the part.
