Gonna have to get a new hat

I just received a new suit I'd ordered online from Jos. Bank, a DB olive plaid that was only $123, which is about as cheap as you can get from Jos. Bank. I justified putting it on my credit card by knowing that I'll be needing it once I get a job, as my Fall/Winter suit selection is limited. Beautiful suit, the jacket fits great, though even at a 46 Short, I still need to have the sleeves shortened. I'm just stumpy. The pants don't fit as well as some others that I've bought at Jos. Bank, even though they're the same size, so I'm debating what to do there. The 100s fabric is light. Too light, if you ask me.

Anyway, this is the Hat forum, not Suits! :cool2: The only hat I have that even attempts to go with the olive plaid is my grey Borsalino. The others just don't work. I'm thinking I need an olive-colored hat, probably about the same shade as the suit, and it's a darker shade than I expected. I can't picture a lighter shade working with it, but the same shade or maybe darker than the suit. Any thoughts?

My thesis defense is two weeks from today, so I'll inaugurate the suit then!

I may have to buy a custom hat for this, as the vintage will be really hard to come by.

I'd been thinking about that one! The shade in this color looks good, though there's a shot of Aaron wearing it where it looks lighter, and the crown look lower. I may talk to Aaron about it. I might put a wider ribbon on it.

I'm still not quite convinced about modern Stetsons.

Plenty of vintage green

Seems to me that there is no shortage of moss-to-olive
green or green/grey vintage hats. I personally have sworn
off green hats now that I have two green Mallorys, a green-grey
Borsalino, a green Bee, and probably others... Must have
been a very popular color, the way black is these days.

I had been toying with the idea of asking this forum if green was
for some reason an easy color to put into felt, after seeing
so many vintage green hats.

Just stick with eBay or what sources you have. You'll
find something great.

Thanks Sharpe

Im going up to the outlet in a week or so and I think I'll take a look at the Gaylord. I want to pick up a Bentley that their supposed to be getting in. The Gaylord does look interesting. Maybe $45.00 bucks will buy me one, for sure a Bentley. It helps to know the different styles. The warehouse is BIG!!! Matter of fact, part of it is being used for flood relief supplies. Best wishes.

Gotta love Jos A. Bank. I, too, am a 46 Short and they are one of the few places that I can walk in and not get a dirty look from the salesman when I tell him what size I am.

Check out my avatar and you'll see an olive Bank suit (not plaid, tho) with a dark brown hat. Seems to be an OK combination. I have green eyes so I wear a lot of olive (and other shades of green), and brown always is a farily safe bet.
