Golf, the game not the sport.

I remember I took a class on golfing... my father and brother would go out and hit the course now and again. I never really got into the game, though I do like the attire you see golfers wearing in movies from the 40s, 1930s and 20s. Style was on the fairway and it didn't mean a thing if you didn't have a swing (in your gate that is). I watch golf today and it's a sea of ill fitting trousers and polo shirts and the ballcaps to boot. I don't go golfing. though I will fancy a game of the miniature variety now and again.

I like golf. I mean playing it, not watching it. It's relaxing exercise in the open air with the birds singing and the sun shining. It's one of the quintessential Golden Era pass times since it grew in popularity with the rise of the car and when land was still cheap. The golf sequence in The Two Jakes is nice, and there is a good golf novel called Train by Peter Dexter that's worht a look. The Esquire Encylopedia of 20th C... etc. has a whole chapter dedicated to golf attire.

What's not to like?

I really like the game of golf myself also. I find it very relaxing and there's nothing like playing a good game of it. I have to agree with what I see out there attire wise...I would love to see how it used to be out there on the golf course.

A game, not a sport

I agree with the name of the thread. I personally think of golf as a game, not as a sport. The physical aspect that is found in soccer, hockey, basketball, tennis, etc isn't there. Even the most not physically gifted participants have a shot in golf.

Personally, I really enjoy the game, even though I just started learning this year. I'm not sure about the fashion/style of clothing yet though...present era or golden era. Once again, I agree with Matt. I don't have the "swing" to back up the clothing yet.

Golf clubs also make excellent weapons to carry in your car or keep by your front door. Remember to keep your swing level.
