Marc has no private posts anymore so I thought I'd just respond to him here.

Hi Brian!

There's a story about George Hamilton I'd like to share with you. (Maybe you've already heard it?)

In the late 1950s, G.H. -- who was already acting in films -- "borrowed" some suits from Western Costume Co. that had been made for Cary Grant in the '30s and '40s. He took them to a tailor and asked that exact copies be made in his size.

Whne you meet G.H., you might want to ask him if this story is true. If it is, could you get more details about it? Thanks! :)

All the best,

I asked George about this during my interview and he said it wasn't true. He did go to wardrobe at MGM and study all of the clothing of Grant, Cooper, Gable and Astaire but did not have it copied.

However, George did say he bought a copy of the last shoes Grant had made at Maxwells in London that Grant never picked up because he died. They would not sell George the actual shoes no matter how hard he tried.

George is just a great guy. Gracious and charming like you'd imagine. I am busy transcribing the interview with him that took over an hour.

George's old man, George "Spike" Hamilton, was a orchestra leader in the 20s-40s. He started the Barbary Coast Orchestra at Dartmouth, probably the best known college dance band outside Yale, and later led the backup band for dance team Veloz & Yolanda. Spike was also a songwriter, his biggest hit (not very) probably "Wild Honey" (1934).

He's writing a book of his stories. That should be fantastic since he knew everyone and hit all of the best parties.

I'd suggest hunting down a used copy of his first book "Life's Little Pleasures."

George's has also just finished up on Broadway as Billy Flynn in CHICAGO.
