No urban legend, no myth, no hoax, no folklore, no snopes.com, and no old wives', I mean, tall tale. Undoctored as originally scanned without embellishment from Photoshop. This is a real ad appearing on page 36 of the March 27, 1942, issue of United States News. I've had this for a very long time and was digging through boxes of old magazines when I found it. Reading through it for period research, I came across this ad and noticed how strikingly similar it is to the controversial "Good Wife" ad from the fake Housekeeping Monthly. Did this magazine eventually become U.S. News and World Report? And what happened to the Brewing Industry Foundation? There's another BIF ad on the Postal Museum's web site that supports the use of V-mail.

Language has to "set the tone" whether you believe in it or not. I wonder how much she got to endorse this, at that time, probably enough... and took home a couple six packs too.
