'gaudy' eBay Photos?

so everyone, what would be your perfect ebay listing and modelling style?

One that someone does for me so I don't have to do all the work?

Well what do you expect in a thread dedicated to gaudy ebay photos?
If it were me I'd laugh because it was a joke and so is her outfit. I'd laugh because I'm confident enough not to care what other people think of how I look or what I wear. If you can't laugh at yourself, who can you laugh at?
Lighten up people.

Sure, the outfit is bold, and not in everyone's taste. However, I don't see what the model did to solicit such comments about her body, if we're only talking about the outfit she was dressed in.

Maybe it just rubs me the wrong way because I have been an "Ebay/Etsy model" for a few nice people who wanted to have their designs and old clothes modeled on my body type. I did it as a favor, not because I thought I was looking super-cool in my poofy dresses. Example (because I'm confident enough to laugh at myself...):

80's butt-bow, weird background and lighting, and awkward nose shadow.

Not Ebay, but still selling something. It was at a benefit called "66 Roses" for people with cystic fibrosis...hence the flowers. I was also modeling a corset for a local designer, which you can barely even see due to the angle the photographer chose. They had someone come in to do my hair, which is why my bangs were flying everywhere. I didn't even choose the pose! I did it because it was for a great cause.

So...keep in mind that the model does not always make these choices.

I Dont care if the photo is crappy or not in how its modeled, (that can sometimes work in your favor price wise) so long as the photos are acurate, measurements are as well, and the description is strong.

Show it two or three ways, modern, maniquin and hanging.

you and me both. I detest taking photos. My mannequin is about 6.0 and I am 5.1 3/4
Me and her have quite a relationship going. lol She doesn't like me much chunking her around. She is missing hands though so I have the upper hand.

I mainly don't like when the item looks like an ant with lots of background and you cannot see anything.

I will admit, I do find it a bit irritating when people will take 20s, Edwardian clothing and add modern sneakers and leggings with them. I try to look past it, though, and focus on the item.

One thing that annoys me is when people sell vintage swimsuits, with live models wearing them. I always wash everything I buy off eBay before I wear it, anyways... but sometimes I get a bit grossed out.

OK...I'll have to toss this in, but I'm sure it's been mentioned elsewhere...people who post "vintage" items from the 90's. Or "antiques" from the 1970's... I just picked up a pair of 1998 "antique" Trafalgar braces on Ebay the other day...

My sentiments exactly. It's also a good thing to see closeup photos of maker labels and any union labels that might be present.

I really couldn't care less if the item is shown with an outfit that is not totally period correct. I prefer clothes to be shown on mannequins, front and back views, with measurements (why some sellers list clothes without measurements I'll never know) and the condition, noting any holes and stains. I've lost count of the number of vintage items I've had to send back because of very obvious stains/tears that I cannot repair which were not mentioned in the description. Some items you can save, some you can't! Having said that, blurry photographs can help you grab a bargain - I won a 1940s sheer button up rayon crepe dress for £4 because the photo wasn't very clear.

I think to expect mannequin/ dress form and a live person model is crazy, from the perspective of the seller. That's two different shoots, dressing two different times. I guess it would be nice, but I know how much work it is to put up a professional looking ebay listing, and one or the other is fine with me. I would not do both, unless I knew my return would be guaranteed outstanding. You'll never please everyone anyway. But for me when listing, labels, complete measurements, close ups of materials and flaws, etc are a MUST.

I worry about the garment itsef when worn in crazy ensembles or poses. It could be a fragile peice and they're stretching it or pulling it.. possibly popping seams, ect.
Another reason I don't mind if they don't use a mannequin. If they don't know what they're doing, I'd rather them just lay the garment on the bed instead of trying to yank it over a manny... which can be very akward at times. Even if the model is petit enough, moving in weird poses can ruin a frock.
So I guess I do get "put off" because I feel they're not taking proper care of the vintage duds. Esp. edwardian stuff.

If you don't like the photo or need a close up of something you can always ask the seller to take another picture for you.
I don't care who models it, what the pose is or what it is paired with as long as the photo's are clear, the desription and the measurements are correct.
