FS: Schott 674 A-2/Flight/Bomber Styled Leather Jacket, size 50

Schott 674 leather jacket, standard A-2 / bomber / flight styled leather jacket in a size 50. Schott is still producing it under the 184SM model designation and it currently retails at $840.

I'm selling this bad boy for a ridiculous $290.

You ought to be well acquainted with the style. This isn't a repro of anything, of course. Four large pockets - or rather two two-way entrance front pockets. Warm, quilted lining. Football underarms. Full action back. Etc.

So okay, a little digression but I gotta throw in a rant. The kind of leather this jacket is made of in all honesty and seriousness annihilates a lot of much highly priced stuff that I've seen & handled. I cannot stress enough how beautiful & perfect it is and if I could find a cross zip made in this same stuff - which I don't understand why Schott isn't making - it'd be a game over for me. Both jackets that I have had from a certain other maker that is currently being held in highest possible regard look and feel like cheap vinyl car seats compared to this cowhide. So much that I'm close to calling it a scam.
Anyway, as good as this looks on the photos, it's still difficult to capture just how nice it is as the texture, feel, grain, everything is just stunning.

The jacket itself is very well made & the machinist took great care to perfectly match all the panels. From the largest panels to the tiniest bits, leather has been beautifully matched throughout the jacket. Both sides of the jacket perfectly mirror each other. You'll see.

As for the condition, I'm sure that you can tell just by the photos that the jacket is for all intents and purposes near-new. I literally have nothing to add there. Looks like it's been worn 3 times altogether. Faint suggestions of creases in the sleeves, is all. Smells new.

Size 50, XL I suppose, and the measurements are...

• Waist width: 23" / 59 cm (minimum)
• Shoulder width: 24.5" / 62 cm
• Back length - 25" / 64 cm (21.5" / 54 cm without waistband)
• Sleeve legnth - 28" / 72 cm (24.5" / 62 cm without cuffs)

Anyway, this is tremendously high quality jacket and if ANYONE ever tells you that this or that maker is totally making a better jacket, slap them across the face because they're outright lying. I promise you that this cannot get outperformed in any possible aspect other than the historical accuracy.

As I've said here before, I had the other common variation of this model - brown with a faux-fur G-1 style collar and white pile lining - bought new circa 1984 on sale for $99. It was a GREAT jacket, it carried me through a bunch of NYC winters. I pretty much wore it out and donated it circa 2000. It may not be a proper military repro, but it's classic and very functional. Here's mine towards the end:

Pedantic note: The current 184SM isn't quite the same. Besides being the "four-way" style (with removable fur collar and lining), the construction is different. It has a G-1 style half-belt back. That's exactly it; I know that perhaps I should be listing this jacket for peanuts instead of whatever we agree on since it's Schott, it's not a repro, etc. but if my experience with leather jackets amounts to anything, I can promise you that this is literally as good as it can get. It's not a proper repro of anything, of course but the quality, leather, material, lining, everything is second to none and I'm not exaggerating one little bit when I place it at the level of LW in every possible aspect. It's super warm, too.

It's not an okay jacket for the price, it's an insanely good jacket for very little money. If it was 40, I think I'd keep it even tho it's not my style. But what I'm tryna say, I can see why Schott is asking as much for the current version.

Which isn't exactly the same, you're right, but my 674, I mean the one that I'm selling is pretty much the exact same jacket, back and all as the current 184 I'm looking at at their site. HB x action back, two way entry pockets, cuffs, everything except for the removable collar & liner.

I think they were modifying the 674 a lot as I've seen the version you describe, with the clean back and all but the one that I got seems to be the same as the 184SM.

It's true: they went to the G-1 back on the 674 sometime after my mid-80s sample, but it was still before they introduced the current four-way model. But for the most part, these jackets had nearly the same specs and construction details for a long time. (As I said, back when I got mine, there were two variations. The plain collar with quilted lining, or the fur collar with pile lining. Both were available in black or brown naked cow.)

And yeah, these are absolutely great leather jackets. I get excited whenever I see a film/TV character wearing one of them (most recently, Greta Gerwig in Frances Ha.)

Winter is just at the door and y'all know those fancy jackets won't cut it no more. But this reliable, beastly workhorse is ready and waiting. You can comfortably wear it in 20f and it'll keep you warm & look cool at the same time. And for another 40+ years!

They made a few variant of these styles from what i've seen, your is made of steerhide, it seems the 674G was a "deluxe" version of the 674 : https://www.schottnyc.com/forum/posts/info_on_674.htm
There is a also the 174sm (sherpa and naked cowhide), i own one and i love it, and the 674sm made of steerhide and sherpa
The 184sm is cool too, not all of them are on the same level of quality from my experience

The 184sm is cool too, not all of them are on the same level of quality from my experience

I've only seem the 184sm and this exact same version, though never any variations of the model. My friend had the same one, only in a smaller size and it was identical even though it probably wasn't from the same year. It was made from a similar leather, tho not as heavy & nice looking as the jacket I'm selling here. Deluxe indeed 'cause I haven't seen a steer like that from Schott.

This jacket appears to be “like new” with minimal creases , in excellent condition. I have this Jacket in size 50 L and The materials and build used will make the jacket last a lifetime. This is approximately the same price I paid for mine a few years back.

Yep, absolutely on all accounts.

The jacket looks great on the photos but it's hard to capture how new it actually is. I mean it when I say I can't imagine it'd look any newer if it was hanging in a Schott NYC store. Leather is still stiff as the day it was bought, creases aren't even set in properly yet... It just doesn't get any better than this. If I'm lying, the buyer can keep the jacket and I'll refund them.

As for the materials, nothing more I can add to what I already said - If there is a better, tougher jacket out there, I can't think of one. Mega-tough cowhide, warm, thick lining, perfectly made... All that matters.
