early 50s German suit
€75 plus shipping from Germany
(€6 within Germany, €15 within EU, €40 ground shipped or €56 premium shipped to U.S.)
The original owner bought and wore it as his wedding suit.
Base colour is charcoal, the stripes are blue and cream.
The suit was clearly tailor-made and the size given in the title is just approximate. Please go by measurements. In my opinion, this would best suit a 36" to 37" chest. Only the trousers will need to be reverted back to their original waist width.
Those of you who are familiar with late 40s to early 50s german tailoring will know what to make of the shoulder measurements.
For the others, you should know that the shoulder padding of that era is quite extreme, more so than the American counterpart. However, quite unlike the American suit shoulder of that time, the shoulder on German suit is set inward (more like a 30s suit). So the 16" shoulder fits a regular size 36 to 38.
Condition:
Basically flawless. No holes, odours, fabric nicks or anything.
Alterations:
The liner back seam of the jacket has been opened and only needs to be sewn shut again.
As it is, the shallow pleat in the liner at the back seam is opened instead of closed. That's it. You could wear the jacket as is, too.
It makes no difference in terms of fit or functionality.
The trousers have been let out at the back seam by 2", and an appropriate liner material has been inserted in wegde shape at the inside.
All of these are period alterations and can be easily undone. The waist alteration must have been made before the trousers were actually worn, as the opened seam at the back is practically invisible and the fabric looks no different in terms of colour.
Added to that, it looks like the jacket was worn very little if at all after the wedding, and the trousers must have been worn sparingly as the only evidence of any wear is the minor wear of the liner (curtains).
Measurements:
Jacket
chest 20.25"
shoulder 16"
sleeve 26"
back length from collar seam 29.75"
trousers
waist half 17.5" (let out from originally 16-16.5")
outseam 41" plus 2" to let out
inseam 30"
thigh 14.5"
hem width 8.25"
