1950s Spiegel that is a catch and release for me. I took a gamble on this and it turned out too small for me. I conditioned the jacket with some Pecard’s as it was quite thirsty. The leather is thick and stiff and almost certainly horsehide. Easily one of the nicest hides I’ve ever handled, I wish this fit properly. Really nice brown patina showing through the black leather.
This jacket needs some TLC after being stored for the better part of the last century. The leather has cracking on the shoulders and sleeves and the snap that secures the right epaulet has come loose without damaging the leather. Some of the stitching needs to be reinforced on the shoulder and the bottom of the zipper. Lining is wearable but could clearly use some love. I tried to capture these flaws in the photos.
The main zip appears to have been replaced. All the diamond-chain torso zips and bell sleeve zips are original Conmars and work well.
