Mn, I don't think the two situations equate either. Interesting story, though - I'm surprised theleather hadn't rotted after all that time in the sea.

Yep, lining, thread, zipper tape, et al...can respond differently to a washing.

My watch strap is made of some of that stuff. It's actually quite beautiful....though I'm still not washing my G-1 ;-)

As the owner of a jacket that was given a hot wash before coming into my possession I can attest to the fact that, leather may be tough enough for this but things like cotton zipper tape and thread may not be. So yes, be careful.

I bought an old cooper a2 from the far east..it was in great condition but smelled of smoke n god knows what else.promptly threw it in the washing machine & left it to dry slowly..turned out great.its now one of my fav jackets..shock horror.n i have aero.lost worlds.eastman etc...best £70 i ever spent.
