FL Cult Films

We're all familiar with movies such as Plan 9 From Outer Space and Rocky Horror Picture Show that have a widespread cult following. How about ones that seem to have a particular following here at the Lounge? These movies are the ones frequently quoted and referenced in different posts and threads. Here are the ones that immediately come to mind:

Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy
Austin Powers
The Outlaw Josie Wales
Scarface

Are there any others?

I suppose The Big Lebowski, Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas and Fight Club are three mainstream modern films that come to mind.

There are an endless number of actual cult films, however. Anyone ever seen The Room by Tommy Wiseau? Probably one of the worst films ever made, but enjoys some kind of cult status.

Hi

How are you defining "cult film" with respect to the lounge? In some ways, I'd guess that any Bogart film would be on the list. Mulholland Falls, LA Confidential, and the Indy films too.

My ultimate modern 'cult' film: Raiders of the Lost Ark

My ultimate classic 'cult' film: It's a Wonderful Life, followed very closely by It Happened One Night and Bad Day at Black Rock

Quite a few people here love The Night of the Hunter with Mother Mitchum. I don't know why, I hated it!

I LOVED The Night of the Hunter! I ran out and bought it so I could watch it over and over. No kidding.

...Wait, does that make me a little creepy?

As to Fl cult films I'd say
The Cotton Club
The Untouchables
Public Enemies

I immediately thought of cult for the FL where they are modern films depicting a vintage era that might inspire one to vintage style dress or hats - Or a reasonable facsimile thereof.

Hi

O.K. I'm retentive, but I looked up Cult Film on Wikipedia: "A cult film, also commonly referred to as a cult classic, is a film that has acquired a cult following with a specific group of fans" These all match that, but it also says that: "Often, cult movies have failed to achieve fame outside the small fanbases; however, there have been exceptions that have managed to gain fame among mainstream audiences." The Sting (VC just posted it) obviously doesn't meet that criteria, but anyway, the list of FL popular films is pretty good. I haven't seen the Sting since it came out.

As a film depicting the Era as near-flawlessly as any film in the last forty years could possibly do -- Paper Moon.

As a modern, non-vintage film that nevertheless strikes a note with a lot of us here -- Idiocracy.
