Ok.... started to get really excited about Fedora's last spring. I got a nice Stetson fur felt. And from there went a little crazy between Panamas and Fur felt fedora's. I now have 13 (were from my European vacation).

I love wearing them. I love everyday I go outside and think.... what hat for today. So my hats are great for Spring, Summer, and Fall. But today, I know its not winter yet, but it was in the 40s and humid and breezy. And my ears were uncomfortably cold. I thought its only going to get colder and that means I either need to man up or I will not be wearing my nice hats till spring.

I have a great Tilley Fedora with ear flaps. It looks ok and it keeps my ears warm. But.... I would really like a nice fedora with ear flaps.

Anyone know of any? I did see a Bailey fedora with flaps. Its LiteFur, whatever that is.

What did men do for keeping their ears warm in the 30's, 40's. and 50's?

Well, if the photos we see are to believed, they toughed it out. There don't seem to be many pics of gents in those years wearing ear muffs or anything. Personally, I don't generally cover my ears either.

Maybe just some muffs to go with your hats?

Sent directly from my mind to yours.

https://www.stormykromer.com/prodcat/caps.aspI do not know about fedoras with ear flaps. I do know about Stormy Kromers with slide down ear warmers. In my neck of the USA they are de rigor on a cold day when you need to cut some wood, or use snow shoes to cut a trail for the dogs and you to warm up. It can be very cold here in Minnesota and with a covered head I am mostly comfy. When my ears get cold I head inside for a warm-up. Flip up your jacket collar and actively enjoy the cool weather.

On the other hand the brim of your fedora is terrific protection from the elements.

I don't know. I wasn't alive then.

But I do know that that my scarf keeps my face and ears warm simultaneously when I cover them with it while wearing fedoras in 2016, and that has also worked in past years, and it will work in future years too.

So I don't buy into the false dichotomy that keeps coming up on this forum of either ear muffs or cold ears. And ear muffs still don't keep faces warm either, so in my opinion they are an incomplete & inferior solution even when they do keep ears warm.
