Fedora Ribbon Question

I bought this hat back in Dec from Miller Hats in Houston. I like the hat, it fits well for the most part, but i somewhat feel the crown is slightly tall on me. I asked the store to lower is slightly when i got it, and they said they did but i'm not sure they did or not. i'm going back soon to get the adjustment done. However, i'm wondering if i changed the ribbon color to break up the crown from the brim, would it help to give the illusion of a shorter crown?

The reason i ask is because i have another fedora, it's a straw safari type i got at Disney World. It's a medium tan color, with a darker band. I measured both hats, and they measure the same, 2" brim, and 4 1/4" crown, but the straw hat appears to not be as tall on me.

Suggestions please, thanks.

My suggestion is to leave it be. You will most likely find, over time, that a slightly taller hat looks good on you.

But if you really want the hat to appear lower, yes, a thicker (taller) ribbon will give the illusion of a shorter hat. And they are not that hard to replace. The toughest part is the bow, but with some practice and patience, you should be able to make a nice one. There are lots of variations if you don't like, or can't replicate the one on the hat.

I agree with Scotty.I love the look of tall crowns.I like to crease my hats at 5".

I'm not really sure how effective trying to lower a blocked in crease would be to begin with.

It's possible but more difficult than with a hand-creased hat, if my experiences are any indication.

I had some machine-creased/blocked hats early in my hat 'career', but not anymore. As I became more involved in what I like to call 'mutchering' - what some others might call tweaking, every angle and dimension of a hat, I found that I wasn't satisfied with the set-in shape of a machine-blocked hat, and it was tough to make it retain any new shape.

I further concur that you already have a relatively short crown and shouldn't fuss too much over it. IMHO changing the ribbon color would not make it look shorter

A ribbon change might help if it was so obnoxious (hot pink?) that it completely drew the eye away from the rest of the hat, but ribbon height would work better in this regard.
