Facial Hair

I know that most men of the "golden age" didnt have any facial hair at all. is there any documented styles that were very popular?

furthermore, does any sort of facial hair sort of clash with any certian style of hat? how about complimenting it?



i realize its all a matter of personal preference, which is why im very attached to my goatee, but i grow facial hair very quickly, so i like to experiment around with it. Though, without facial hair, i look like a 15 year old, so i'm apt to keeping at least something on there. just curious what your opinions are.

Facial hair, you say?

I've had quite a few different types of arrangements. The full beard with different lengths, the Hetfield moustache, long sideburns, sideburns-into-the-hetfield, the neat Clark Gable type, and some other obscure(sp?) variations. These were just stops on my path of enlightment. I now sport a very clean look, with just a 1 cm sideburn, practically nothing.
I feel that in order to wear a beard, you'd have to be...old! Whitehaired and...old! But that might be my blurred image of the period, I'm very likely to think of the earlier victorian period.

The Golden Age most certainly had it's share of facial hair,albeit,mainly in Europe.Mr. Gillette quashed many of the fine moustaches that were seen 20 years earlier.But the London/Paris/Vienna scene still boasted it's share of facial hair. Just look to the world leaders at the time:Stalin,Hitler,Chamberlain,many MP's,and most of the Turkish and middle eastern premiers had facial hair.
I do agree though,that 1930's America had been shorn of it's "uniqueness".Of course,in my opinion only.The clothing made up for it.How splendid the look!!!

Funny you should mention this topic. Tomorrow is the official start of beard growing season...at least for me. For the last several years starting October 1 I grow my winter beard. Sometimes I keep it trimmed short and other times I'll let it grow longer but my face won't feel a razor until April 1.

Grow that beard!!!!It is there for a reason,for goodness sakes!!!
