Event Prep

I'm terribly obsessive about prepping for an event! I start maybe a week in advance - get my outfit out, make sure everything is clean, pressed, and ready to go. Make sure all of my accessories are together - try everything on and make sure all fits okay. Lay it all out so I don't forget anything.

About a week ahead, I'll make sure my hair is cut, colored, and deep-conditioned, and I'll get my eyebrows waxed. I never do anything too crazy with my hair, so my timeline is pretty safe. If you're going for a drastic change, I'd maybe go 2-3 weeks out. Couple of days in advance, I'll do an at-home facial. I'll do a manicure and pedicure usually the evening beforehand - even if it is just filing my nails, pushing back cuticles, and applying a coat of clear polish. Maybe use a teeth-whitening strip if I'm bored or have some lying about. lol I also like to use an exfoliating body scrub followed by a good moisturizer, and a hydrating scrub on my hands.

Whenever I try to prepare for something, the change in my routine always causes something to go wrong. Extra facial attention leads to a breakout, hair-do test looks great but the real day looks like a rats nest, 3 nails break off or I over pluck one eyebrow and have to hairspray my bangs over top of that side of my face.

So no I don't anymore, but I totally respect you guys for doing it! lol

I carry stain sticks in my car. Been know to spill on the way to an interview. I always have an umbrella in the car after showing up like a wet dog on a first day as well. I'm going to sound like a weirdo here - but I will bring a back-up blouse or jacket, hose and flats and leave them at my work place. I am accident prone like you wouldn't believe. A little bit of planning goes a long way.

Generally the night before a big interview I make sure that I have no plans or commitments. This way I can calmly walk myself thru things, paint my nails, lay my things out and set 2 sets of alarms.

Good luck to you!

I've found that the best thing to use on clothings stains is non-sudsing facial cleansing wipes. You can get the individually wrapped too! I find that using stain sticks normally leaves a large ring around where the stain was.

I can't add anything as i have never been to a job interview, I have either always worked for myself or friends,
but I am taking notes from all the above as at some point i will have to.
Good luck !

Yikes, I have an interview tomorrow...

So this is suddenly making me nervous!
But, I really do not plan on changing my normal day look at all. I will be neat and clean, and maybe a little more subdued in the way of makeup and jewelry, but they can have my red lipstick when they pry it from my cold, dead hands.
I don't see any point in pretending to be different than I am to get a job, as I will still be me when I start the job!
Luckily, I live in the Bay Area where most people are odd, so my oddities of looking a bit vintage just look ladylike in comparison to many peoples' fashion tastes!
Now on the other hand, for an "event" which I classify as something vintage dress-up by nature, I spend about 6 months making lists and planning outfits to sew that never do get sewn before the event, about two weeks packing what I will end up wearing instead, and playing with different combinations - this is for big deals like the Queen Mary Art Deco Festival or the Ahwahnee, each of which need 4 outfits a day for 4 days... but that is fun, not stressful planning!
If it's a one day event, like the Ball or the Gatsby or something, still at least a week of working on the outfit...

You all will be happy to note that I am sitting here with an oil treatment on my hair, a face mask on....and will be taking a lovely bubble bath a bit later.

and I might need wine.....oh yes...otherwise I shall never get to sleep...but the rest of everything is ready for tomorrow.
