Tasmania's favourite son "Errol Flynn" is being celebrated this year he was born in Hobart in 1909

On Saturday 20th June 2009, Hobart City Council will unveil a plaque for Errol Flynn, Tasmania’s most famous Hollywood star, in the footpath outside the State Cinema. The plaque acknowledges Errol Flynn’s contribution to Tasmania and the motion picture industry.

The most fun you’ll have in 100 years!



Hollywood legend Errol Flynn - arguably the only man ever to look good in tights – was born in Tasmania a century ago this June.

To mark the 100th anniversary of his birth in Hobart, the Errol Flynn Society of Tasmania invites you to in the Errol Flynn Centenary Celebration from the 12th-20th of June 2009 to rejoice in all things Errol-esque!

The Centenary Celebration provides 10 days of events for people of all ages to pay tribute to and commemorate one of Hollywoods greatest ever stars and Tasmania’s most debonair son.

Program highlights:

A Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery display of some 50 significant pieces – Hollywood artefacts and mementoes – from Errol’s life.

A sword fighting exhibition hosted by Andy Muirhead and Peter G will be on display in the Elizabeth Street Mall from 12-2pm on Friday 12th June.

A film festival hosted by the State Cinema will showcase the classic Errol Flynn movies including the brilliant “Captain Blood”, the crowd-pleasing “The Adventures of Robin Hood” and swashbuckling “The Sea Hawk”.
Rory Flynn will host book signings in both Hobart and Launceston for her tell-all book “The Baron of Mulholland” - a daughters loving memory of her father documented through pictures, letters and rare personal insights.
The Hobart City Council is proud to unveil a ‘Hollywood Walk of Fame’ style star, outside the State Cinema, as well as the launch of the tourist brochure “Errol Flynn’s Tour of Hobart”.

A swashbuckling sail around the Derwent aboard the Windward Bound with special guests Rory and Sean Flynn is open to the public on Saturday 20th June.

To culminate the celebrations the Heart Foundation will host an Errol Flynn themed Gala Ball.
Errol Flynn’s action packed and sometimes controversial life sadly ended at the age of 50 due to a heart attack. It is his larger than life personality, unrivalled charm and devil-may-care attitude that live on today.
