I picked up this nifty title for next to nothing at a local thrift shop.
It is called English for Coming Citizens by Henry H. Goldberger, copyright 1918.
It is chock full of useful information with short chapters on the essentials of getting by in America. Chapter titles include buying a hat, pullman cars, and taking in washing.

What a great find. Old ESL textbooks (before it was called ESL) are fun. I have a couple but neither are that old.
