Wondering if anyone here is an empty nester and if it has caused you to try to acquire more vintage stuff from your childhood or be a seller of vintage?

Yes to being an empty nester and collecting vintage stuff. Not sure they're related, but could be.

Empty nester? Maybe I need to move to a different tree as they keep finding this one! lol
(Seriously, I love 'em...most days;) )
Oh, back to the question...yes, I have been on a buying binge at the thrift store this week, downloaded and bought old time radio programs to listen to in the evenings, prefer the music of the 40'-50's and have refurbished my wardrobe to that general era....the cottage is undergoing a makeover to be more 50's cabin...I guess I'm not sticking to one certain year but recalling memories of some cabins hubby and I had vacationed in as children. I certainly am enjoying a bit more quite and there is also more time to enjoy the things I like and with three kiddos, homeschooling and all, sometimes it was hard to even remember what my name was! I AM having a blast discovering the vintage styles of yesteryear.
Anything I had from my childhood, Barbie's, Hot Wheels and such, were lost when my moms' basement flooded about 25 years ago....:(

I started to put this here first. Sorry.

I find I am like a crazy person gathering up things I remember as a kid. Possibly due to my move to another state or more time to do so.
I have always appreciated craftmanship though and quality and I find both in vintage.

Empty nest is another world entirely. After 13 years with our oldest I finally have accepted they are not coming back. lol

Good Housekeeping magazine had 3 stories on empty nesters this month.
Several described it exactly.
The idea that one now doesn't have to get carpet to hide milk stains and so can go all out in finding and decorating the way they want to after kids.
If it makes me smile I pick it up. or if I dream about it I go back and pick it up. lol

You do know vintage stuff talks to you don't you?

Adult vintage like lovely glass vases and crystal stems.

My daughter did the same thing I did- moved out shortly after graduating high school. No issues, just a strong desire to be self- sufficient.
That was 11 years ago, and in Oct. I'm officiating at her wedding. To a guy with a house, so barring any misfortune there, she won't be moving back in anytime soon.

My sister actually belongs to an Empty Nesters club.
After moving I am tempted to start one myself.
It does allow you so much more freedom. We started young so it makes it even better IMHO.
