Sweet one Josh. I wonder why Stetson doesn't make a Milan Open Road any more and just the paper version? I know I had seen a teaser on Stetson's facebook account about a Milan Open Road but nothing more was ever posted.

It would be really cool if Stetson made a REAL Milan open road with good dimensions! They make so many hats out of that coated paper. They do sell a couple real panama's but the crowns are short just like the rest of their current production offerings. This vintage Open Road Milan has just the perfect dimensions and the weave is so nice and tight. This was really a quality hat. Whats kind of neat about it is that it actually has two size tags. They are stacked right on top of one another. When the finisher was putting the sweatband and size tag on the hat back in the 50's, two must have been stuck together and they just sewed them like that. Its actually pretty cool. If one tag goes bad, there is another original one right behind it.

Josh, is this a loose 7 1/2? I can wear some 7 1/2's and then some 7 5/8's are loose on me. It's just according to the make of the hat I guess.

Well since I can't wear it, I couldn't tell you if its loose or not. I measured the sweatband its between 23 1/2 - 23 3/4 inches in circumference

I have one of these also and can attest that they are truly easy to wear, very comfortable and flexible!

If I had the hat I'd like to change the bash to more of a Stratoliner or Camp Draft look. Does anyone have any idea how hard it would be to change this hat in the condition it's in? I might leave the center bash and go pop out the side dents and put them at the front. I've never messed with straw before and have no idea how hard it would be (expecially on a vintage hat).

The straw is very pliable so usually Milan Straw hats will shape with a good amount of steam and patience. I've re-blocked straw hats myself, and while not as easy as felt, its relatively simple.

So it ends at $125. Josh I thought for sure you would have gotten way more. Thats a very nice Stetson Milan! If it was only a 7 3/8 I would have snatched it!

Well I want to thank everyone for their bid! I'm happy with the price it went for, but to be real honest, I am kind of shocked it didn't go a bit higher as well. Ive only seen a couple of these 50's open road milans, and especially in a 7 1/2, trends would show that similar hats went for a bit more. Like I said, I'm very happy with all the positive response I got for this sale. I know if this thing said "Whippet," the final auction price would have been doubled.
Again, THANK YOU to everyone who bid on the hat!

Who won the bid? My snipe was around that figure but I had some glitch with ebay and I don't know who has won it?

Good Job Josh. It's a great hat but just wasn't on my bucket list. I didn't want to blow my stash because as soon as I bought your hat (which I really liked) a Strat, Playboy or Whippet would have appeared on Ebay and I would have been screwed. I dropped out early so as not to mess with anyone who really wanted it.

Congratulations to whoever one it. Was it one of us?
