Eastman officers pink trousers

I have three pairs of the pink made by eastman but today I just noticed this! What's the function of this little bar at the hem of the trousers?

My guess is a wear guard. Keep from getting wholes when rubbing on boots. But that is just a guess

Ok Regius, give us a review of quality, historical accuracy and comfort please. never had a pair of 'Pinks', I'm not too keen on high waisted trousers. Always wore some French Foreign Legion dress trousers with my A2s, or plain old 1980s Chino's.
Though to be honest you can't wear a 70 year old beat up A2 with a neat pair of ironed strides. Well, I cant anyway

French legion pants? I just bought a pair from WPG, not too pleased, I'm using it to practice alteration and hemming! Mainly not pleased with the fabric, it's essentially a pair of Dockers khakis from Kohls but cut high waisted and big assed, button fly and pleated. The pleats top stitching also begins to break apart. Although the buttons are sewn on tight.

Eastman Pink trousers review: I'd say the verdict is if the size is right, love them, if not, you'd better hold on tight to your belt! There's no way to physically compare them to originals as I have not handled one. However, I know the fabric is called wool elastique, and this fabric is still made today, in NYC many fabric stores carry a variety. I also happen to have a 1950s original work jacket made out of exact same material so I'd say fabric-wise, I have a direct comparison, the conclusion is ACCURATE.

As for cut, I can only extrapolate, I have a few pairs of 50s to Vietnam era army wool pants, thick and heavy stuff with hanger strings and buttons inside etc. The pink is wider toward the bottom than the OD army pants, so it's almost like the nascent presentation of bell bottom pants. They are made for LONG LEGs, a stock size 34 has 34 in seams, because the hem is already prepared and the abrasion bar is already put in place, so if you shorten it, you'd alter this factory set up. Unfortunately I don't have 34 inseam so I'll have to re-sew the bar back to place after shortening.

Now, waist size and fit. If the waist is not exact as your measurement, the pants tends to fall. The lining is historically accurate rayon so they don't have much friction against your shirt. All you have is your belt, if you have no hip then they will always drop an two to three inches, then you feel you are a hip hop artist. This, nevertheless, may not be a big deal because I saw in movies like 12 oclock high, War Love or Target of the Day, the dropped crouch is common back in the day. It's just not very comfortable to walk when the seat of your pants is five inches below your balls. The wool elastique may also rub agains your inner thigh (there's no lining in the legs).

So I recommend an exact fit or custom tailor to make it a bit tighter and cinch your belt high up. Or, wear clipper suspenders, then they are PERFECT, sharp, drapes, and no fear of falling.

I think I've never seen a picture of a fit with these trousers. Not even at Google images!

ELC takes so much time taking pictures for ELMC that they seem to have forgotten about their other products. Only T-Shirts have fit pictures in their images.

My Foreign Legion trousers/pants were top quality to be true, maybe they were tailor made but had the 'Legion Etranger' Buttons. I could not tell you the era as I just thought they looked good in the days when WWII militaria reproduction was rather limited (Early to mid 1980s) due to the fact that there was no real call for things like WWII reenactment uniforms.
I do believe that American Army officers had to privately purchase their own uniforms, if this is true was there a standardised fabric all tailors stocked for military personnel?
